ail Denise Sloan, 59, of Milwaukee, WI, formerly of Beloit, WI, departed on Friday, June 22, 2012, surrounded by family at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Gail was born on March 28, 1953, in Beloit, WI, and was the fifth child of Elbe and Hazel (McCrary) Sloan. She was raised in the Pentecostal Tabernacle Church of God In Christ in Beloit. She graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1972, and received a Computer Repair Certificate from Blackhawk Technical College. She was employed at Frito Lay for many years and was an administrative assistant for Positive Youth Development (PYD) in Beloit. Gail also worked at The Goldie Floberg Youth Home, So. Beloit, IL, and was most recently employed at Sr. Life Style (Harbour Village) in Milwaukee for the past seven years. Her work in the health occupations field demonstrated her compassion for those with special needs, youth, and the elderly. Gail was also a dedicated officer of the Minority Parent Organization of Beloit, WI.
Gail enjoyed being with her family and friends and especially spending time with her only grandson. She loved music and was an avid jazz lover and rarely missed an episode of ‘Wheel of Fortune" solving the puzzles correctly even up to the time of her passing. Gail had a beautiful smile and will be remembered as a kind, fun-loving and gentle person to those who knew her.
She is survived by daughters, DeShawn N. Sloan of Milwaukee, Carnece T. Price of Beloit; grandson, Javon Murry of Milwaukee; sisters, Wanda Sloan and Marilyn Kilgore of Beloit; special Aunt and Uncle, Elizabeth and George Bowen of Rockford, IL. She is further survived by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and many lifelong friends. We will all miss her terribly.
Gail was predeceased by her parents, paternal grandparents, Ernest and Ajane Sloan; brothers, James, and Arthur Sloan and Gregory Berry; nephews, Grantt Sloan-Goodson, Keith, and Orpheus Sloan.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 29, 2012, at 1 p.m. at NEW ZION BAPTIST CHURCH, 1905 S. Mound Street, Beloit, with Pastor James P. Ivy officiating. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the time of the service. Entombment will be at The Eastlawn Cemetery on Milwaukee Road, Beloit.
