Thomas R. McElroy, 81, a longtime resident of Lake Geneva, WI, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at his home. Thomas Raymond McElroy was born in Hinsdale, IL, on June 27, 1931, the son of the late William and Margaret (Wink) McElroy. He graduated from Lake Geneva High School and then from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, with a BS Degree in Business. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy Air Corps, serving during the Korean War. On July 17, 1971, in Lake Geneva, he was united in marriage to the former Karlin Miller; she preceded him in death in July 27, 2010. He worked in auto sales for many years starting in Wausau, WI. After moving to Lake Geneva, he opened McElroy Auto Sales. Later, he sold vans for Geneva Vans in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. He also tended bar at the Playboy Club and managed the Chart Room in the Geneva Towers for many years.
Tom was a member of the Lake Geneva Lions Club and ran the corn roast for several years. He loved watching sports especially the Green Bay Packers. He was present at the infamous Ice Bowl and attended all Packer Super Bowls.
Tom is survived by two children, Mark (Amy) McElroy of Beloit, WI, and Kathryn (Brian) Fuchs of Edgerton, WI; four grandchildren: Nicole, Brett, and Andrew McElroy and Tia Fuchs; a sister, Margaret Curran of Seattle, WA; and a brother, William (Joyce) McElroy of Harbor Springs, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jane Payne and Elizabeth Pedotto; and a brother, Richard.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Nov. 7, 2012, at SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 148 Main St., Lake Geneva, WI; Father Angel Anaya will officiate. Burial will follow in Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery. The McElroy family will receive visitors Tuesday from 4 until 7 p.m. in the CHAPEL OF DERRICK FUNERAL HOME, 800 Park Dr., Lake Geneva, WI.
