LaMont D. "Monty" Paulson, Janesville, WI  (1940 - 2012)

LaMont D. "Monty" Paulson, age 72, a longtime Janesville resident, passed away early Thursday morning, Nov. 1, 2012, at his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1940, in Monroe, WI, the son of the late LaMont O. and Bengola Luella (Larson) Paulson. On Dec. 9, 1961, he married the former Lorna J. Muth in Galena, IL. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2006.
Monty worked at General Motors Corp., and then began a long career as the manager/operator of the Back O' The Yards Bowl. He and Lorna ran the bowling alley together for many years until their retirement. Monty was an accomplished bowler himself, and had rolled 3 perfect "300" games. He was a very active member and Past President of the Janesville Bowling Association, and had also chaired the committee for the annual fund raising golf outing for the youth bowlers of the area. Monty was elected into the J.B.A. Hall Of Fame in 1993. He spent countless hours assisting kids with bowling, coaching, teaching, and giving of his time to further their enjoyment of the game. He also developed several devices that will assist people with handicaps to bowl, including the rail for a sightless bowler to hold while they roll the ball, and the ramp that a paralyzed person can use to aim and roll the ball!
Monty also helped form the Stateline Traveling League, and appeared on "Bowling With The Champs". He was a Life Member of the Moose, Lodge 197. He was active with the Special Olympics and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Monty's great love was his family, and he would spend whatever spare time he had with his children and grandchildren!
Monty is survived by his four children: Gary L. Clason of Janesville, Clair E. (Lisa) Paulson of Beloit, WI, DeAnn (Eric) Paulson-Warn of Beloit, and Dustin L. (Amber) Paulson of Pittsboro, IN; his siblings: Otis (Doris) Paulson of Madison, WI, Barbara Erickson of Argyle, WI, Ruth (Rev. Jack) Friedli of Rochester, MN, Edward (Gwen) Paulson of River Falls, WI, Elizabeth "Bette" (Samuel) Learned of Texas, and Christine (Dick) McCool of Lawrenceburg, IN; his "in-laws": Carrol Paulson, Doris Paulson, Leon Dahl, Gladys Hendricks, Dorothy Muth, Bea Muth, Jean Mates, and Ilene Muth; his 15 grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren; and by many nieces; nephews; and friends.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, LeAnn J. Paulson; his son, Carl L. Clason; and by his siblings: Leona Johnson, Judith Albertson, Esther Thompson, LaVerne Paulson, Arthur Paulson, Carol Williams, and Janice Dahl.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, with Rev. Anne Andert officiating. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Friends may call from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, with a Moose Service being held at 7:15 p.m. or from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the FUNERAL HOME.
