Raymond J. Jerge, Whitewater, WI (2012)

Raymond J. Jerge, age 82, of Whitewater, WI, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at his home at Fairhaven in Whitewater, where he resided for the past 10 months. Raymond was born in Buffalo, NY, the son of Raymond and Gertrude (Muth) Jerge. Raymond attended Bennett High School in Buffalo, NY, where he was active on the cross country team and graduated from San Diego High School in 1948. He graduated from college from the State University of New York at Alfred with a degree in engineering technology and was retired from Unocal 76 as a senior sales executive. Raymond served in the U.S. Army from 1948-1952 during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. On Jan. 17, 1959, Raymond married Betty O'Grady.
Raymond and Betty were very active members of St. Leo's Church in Murray, KY, and St. Henry's Church in Aurora, KY, for the past 13 years. Raymond was active in the Knights of Columbus, was a Meals on Wheels volunteer, drove a school bus for the School of Hope in his retirement and was a volunteer at the Rehabilitation Center in St. Clairsville, OH.
Raymond and Betty were past members of 32 years at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clairsville, OH, where they were both Eucharistic Ministers and took communion to the local nursing home for 18 years. They both were active members of the Home and School Association at St. Mary's Grade School in Ohio, where Raymond served as president while also serving with the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jerge of Whitewater; son, Martin (Cindy) Jerge of Munster, IN; daughter, Mary (Tim) Reid of Janesville, WI; grandchildren: Michael, Scott, Katherine and Eric Jerge, and Molly, Ellen, Andrew, and Lauren Reid. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Virginia Waddey.
Raymond will be remembered as someone of strong faith who prayed his rosary every day. He was dedicated to his wife, children and grandchildren. Raymond was committed to his family, church, community, and country and was very proud of his service to his country. He told his children to sail as far as the wind will carry you and was delighted in being involved with his grandchildren's activities.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, Whitewater, WI, with Father Steven Forrest celebrating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Whitewater. Friends may call after 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at the CHURCH until the time of the Mass.
The family would like to thank Dr. Steve Bartz, and the staff at Mercy South Family Practice Residency Center, Fairhaven Senior Services, Dr. Janet Fechter, Dr. Jason Welch, and the staff of Mercy Whitewater, Father Stephen Forrest, and Agrace Hospice Care for the loving care they provided for Raymond.
