Steven Eugene Conklin, 54, formerly of Milton, lost his battle with cancer at the home of his brother, Mark, on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012. Steve was born on Feb. 17, 1958, in Edgerton, becoming the 3rd son of Lois Ann (Gallagher) Conklin and the late Charles Peter Conklin. He is also survived by two daughters: Kimberly of Janesville, and Stephanie of Beloit; along with his brothers and sisters: David of LaCrosse, Paul (Be) of Milton, Mark (Rose) of Milton, Kathy (Scott) Thulien of Appleton, James (Judy) of Crystal Lake, IL, Julie (Dave) Zink of Milton, Dan (Caryl) of Louisville, KY, Mary Weekes of Milton, and Jennifer (Ron) Solem of Milton; two grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve graduated from Milton High School and furthered his education by completing a certificate program in Forestry from Nicolet Technical College in Rhinelander, WI. After school, Steve worked many years at various businesses in the Janesville area including Perkins, Happy Joes and McFarland Pheasant Farm.
Steve was fiercely independent, extremely patriotic and a nature lover. Due to epilepsy, Steve was not able to obtain a Driver’s License, yet he walked everywhere and was acknowledged for his efforts to help keep Janesville Streets clean. Steve enjoyed playing the accordion, bowling, card games, especially Cribbage, and doing word search puzzles.
Steve was very proud of his relationship with the Community Support Program (CSP) and grateful for their years of unwavering support. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Mercy Hospital Staff and Mercy Hospice for the incredible care provided to Steve during his battle with cancer.
A private family interment ceremony will be held at a later date.
