Dora Catherine Blum, Milton, WI (1933 - 2012)
May 14, 1933 - October 29, 2012
MILTON, WI—Dora Catherine Blum, 79, of Milton, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 29, 2012, with children and grandchildren by her side. Dora was born May 14, 1933, in Black River Falls, WI, the daughter of the late Albert and Mae (Bryner) Hahn of Humbird, WI. Dora worked many years for Burdick Corporation, was a waitress for Stagecoach and The Cove, and later became the first female bar owner of The Cove in 1979. She opened her heart to all who crossed her path. Through the years, Dora became a good friend to her customers and "mom" to many Milton College students. Supporting her "kids," the community and various sporting events was one of her many joys. When it was time to relax, Dora regularly traveled to Aruba to sit under the "divi divi" tree with friends on the sunny "Wisconsin Beach.” She also enjoyed league bowling at ELRA Bowl in Janesville. Dora’s greatest gift and passion, however, was generously loving each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as unique individuals. She watched each one grow into adulthood with joy, mistakes and all!
Dora is survived by her children: Beverly (Richard) Pogorelski of Janesville, WI, Nancy (Doug) Cumming of Menomonie, WI, Jane Olson, Mike Blum and Lori Blum; and special friend, John "Jack" Courtney of Milton; grandchildren: Kristi Cherry, Geoffrey (Kasey) Pogorelski, Sara (Kevin) Ahlert, Jessica (Tom) Polzer, Greg Olson, Kim Olson, Jacob Heider, Kole Farnsworth, Cortney Calkins, and Ceaira Weber; great-grandchildren: Josh, Hazel, Franklin, Kylee Rae, and Amelia; sister-in-law, Ida Hahn of Hudson, WI; nieces; and a nephew; and her loving and devoted dogs Kelly and Sandy. Dora was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Herbert Hahn and Gordon Hahn; and son-in law, Shane Weber.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at 3 p.m. at ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATION SERVICES, MILTON. Dora's nephew, David Hahn, will officiate. A visitation will precede the service at 1 p.m. Following the service, please join the family to celebrate Dora’s life at THE COVE BAR, 319 Parkview Drive, Milton.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, please make a memorial donation to Agrace HospiceCare Inc, 3001 W. Memorial Drive Janesville, WI 53548.
The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to Agrace HospiceCare, especially to Ellen and Dawn, Dora’s “earth angels”.
