Lewis Shipler, Beloit, WI (1922 - 2012)

Lewis Shipler, 90, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at his home. He was born May 27, 1922, in Burt, IA, the son of Clyde and Flossie (Reynolds) Shipler. Lewis was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a medic in World War II under General Patton. He saw action at the Battle of the Bulge and was a Bronze Star recipient. Lewis married Joan Cook on May 2, 1986, in Janesville, WI. Lewis was the owner and operator of Wilson and Shipler, Inc., retiring in 1988. He wintered in Texas since 1979, until his retirement when he and Joan then lived in Texas, and, then, returned to Beloit in 2011. Lewis enjoyed playing golf and pool, and socializing with friends. For many years his favorite pastime was the Friday night fish fry and dance at the Elk’s Club.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Joan Shipler of Beloit, WI; four children, Richard (Mary) Shipler of South Beloit, IL, Janice (Patrick) Mockus of Rockton, IL, Dennis (Tian) Shipler of Palm Coast, FL, and Karen (Richard) Raby of Waxhaw, NC; step son, Donald (Deb) Smith of The Villages, FL; five grandchildren: Robin (Bart) Sweeney, Michele Mockus, Kristina (Jay) Sargeant, Richard (Vicki) Shipler Jr., and Eric (Nicole) Shipler; six great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Austin of Bellville, MI; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers: Stanley, Lyle, Fay, and Cecil.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Gene Van Galder officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, IL. Visitation will be Friday from 12 Noon until the time of service at the FUNERAL HOME.
