Tracy Soans Shea, Evansville, WI  (1927 - 2012)

Tracy Soans Shea, age 85, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at University Hospital, Madison. She was born on July 27, 1927, in Dansville, NY, to John and Isabelle (Powell) Tracy. She was later adopted by Cyril and Mary (Finn) Soans. Tracy married Richard J. Shea on June 17, 1950, in River Forest, IL. He preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1990. She was a graduate of Edgewood College in 1949, and member of The Emerald Club. She taught grade school for the Evansville Community School District for 29 years before retirement, continuing as a volunteer in the reading program for several years. She gave her time, heart and love to volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Evansville Manor, as Coordinator for the Evansville Blood drive for several years, Evansville Ecumenical Care Closet and member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Evansville. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and over the years served as Religious Instructor, Eucharistic Minister, and Community Affairs. Tracy loved to knit slippers for her family, do crossword puzzles and make sequined calendars for family members. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She loved spending time with her family at the cabin on Lake Wisconsin, and she will be greatly missed by many.
Tracy is survived by her children: Timothy Shea (Barb Gathwaite), Jo-Al (Mike) Cufaude, all of Evansville, and Edwina "Wink" (Robert) Scharnke of Madison; five grandchildren: Brian (Nicole) Cufaude, Mark Cufaude, Christopher Scharnke, Tad Scharnke, Lance Corpal Trevor Scharnke USMC; four great-grandchildren: Harper, Grayson, Kale and Holden Cufaude "who is on the way"; a brother, Robert (Marlene) Tracy of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Danny Cufaude; four sisters: Sister Margaret Isabelle, SSJ (Marian Tracy), Helen Gessner, E. Frances Kieffer, and Jacqueline Soans O'Brien.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at ST. PAUL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Evansville, with Reverend Kevin Dooley officiating with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Evansville. A visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, from 4 until 7 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. at the WARD FUNERAL HOME, Evansville. Memorials will be established per Tracy's wishes.
