George A. Kanelos, Williams Bay, WI (1923 - 2013)

George A. Kanelos, age 89, of Williams Bay, WI, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at his home. He was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Chicago, IL, the son of George and Mary (Moustis) Kanelos. He married Mary Velman Oct. 19, 1952, in Des Moines, IA. George was a World War II Navy veteran, serving with the See Bee's in the South Pacific. After graduating from Northwestern University in 1946, he worked in Real Estate, for Home Federal Savings & Loan, Equitable Life and for Andes Candies as purchasing manager and office manager from 1959 until 1988, helping to move the operation from Chicago to Delavan, WI. George was a Life Member and Master Mason of Des Plaines chapter #890 and a member of AHEPA (American Helenic Educational Philanthropic Assoc.) Madison, WI, chapter 369.
George is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary; sons: Art (Betsy) Kanelos of Lake Geneva, WI, Dean (Alice) Kanelos of Grandville, OH, and Perry (Ann) Kanelos of Muskego, WI; grandchildren: Katy, Christina, Mark, Justin, Robert and Mary Jo. George was preceded in death by his parents; two half brothers, Alex and Andrew; and two half sisters, Tina and Dora.
Private Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at HOLY THEOPHANY ORTHODOX CHAPEL in Walworth Township. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Delavan Township, WI. Friends may visit with the family from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday at TOYNTON'S WALWORTH FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials to Holy Theophany Orthodox Chapel or Aurora VNA Hospice.
