Richard W. "Dick" Olsen, Beloit, WI (1927 - 2013)

Richard W. (Dick) Olsen, 85, of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Pioneer Court Assisted Living. He was born Dec. 20, 1927, in Beloit, WI, the son of Roy O. and Cheryl Windes Olsen. Dick was a 1945 graduate of Beloit High School and attended Bradley University's School of Horology in Peoria, IL. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in Japan, during the Korean Conflict. Dick married Marian Hopkins on June 20, 1953, in North Prairie, WI.
Dick had great pride in owning and operating Olsen Jewelry for 40 years in downtown Beloit. He retired in 1997. Dick was formerly employed for 16 years by J.W. Anderson Jewelers in Beloit, WI. He was a Certified Master Watchmaker in Wisconsin for over 50 years. Dick was very proud of his advanced training in watch making. He and Marian enjoyed square and round dancing. He also enjoyed learning and playing the organ, woodworking, repairing things, feeding and watching birds and squirrels, camping, and supporting his sons and grandson in Boy Scouts. All three are Eagle Scouts. Dick loved spending time with his family and enjoyed their other home at Lake Summerset, Davis, IL. Dick participated in Beloit College Society of Learning Unlimited “SLU”. He was a River of Life United Methodist Church member.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Marian Olsen of Beloit, WI; sons, Steven (Lauren) Olsen of Marengo, IL, and David Olsen of Madison, WI; grandson, Eric (Daniela) Olsen of Newport News, VA; brothers-in-law, Richard Schoenmann of Mazomanie, WI, and Royal Hopkins of Bismarck, ND; nephews, Paul (Margo) Schoenmann and Scott (Tammi) Schoenmann and their families. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Sylvia Schoenmann.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at the RIVER OF LIFE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 511 Public Avenue, Beloit, WI, with Nancy Toubl officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Visitation will also be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the CHURCH.
Memorials are preferred to go to the River of Life United Methodist Church.
