Jacquelyn (Jackie) Cummings, Delavan, WI (2013)

Jacquelyn (Jackie) Cummings died at St. Luke's Hospital, Milwaukee, WI, on Jan. 3, 2013. Jackie was born at Fort Atkinson Hospital, daughter of John and Nancy Cummings of Whitewater, WI. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and in 1969, she graduated from Whitewater High School. In 1973, she graduated from UW-Whitewater with a BE degree in Special Education. Jackie began her teaching career in Florida, where she taught at Fernedina Beach Elementary School. After teaching there for 5 years, Jackie returned to Wisconsin. She again attended UW-Whitewater and earned a Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities in 1979. Jackie taught for Walworth County Special Education for 33 years, most of those years at Sharon Elementary School. Jackie retired form Sharon School in May 2012. She loved teaching, the staff she worked with, and devoted her life to helping her students.
On Sept. 23, 2007, Jackie married Lester Carr and they lived in Delavan, WI. Jackie enjoyed traveling, snorkeling in the Florida Keys; watching her nephews grow up, and especially enjoying time with her family and friends. She and Les have many friends in Delavan and had fun playing euchre and watching the Packer games together. She was a loving, giving person, always wanting to help others. Now, she and her dad are happily together again in heaven. Jackie is survived by her husband, Lester; mother, Nancy of Whitewater; brother, Kim (Carol) of Silver Lake; nephew, Craig; friend, Katie of Milwaukee; nephew, Kyle (Michelle) of Lake Villa; grand-nephew Mason of Silver Lake; aunt Kay Mackie of Madison; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father; uncles, Richard Mackie and Ray Bogie; and aunt, Helen Bogie.
A celebration of life service for Jackie and her father John "Jack" Cummings, who died on the same day as Jackie, will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at the NITARDY FUNERAL HOME, 550 N. Newcomb Street, Whitewater, WI. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday at the NITARDY FUNERAL HOME, Whitewater, a luncheon will follow the services at Randy's in Whitewater.
