Lamont D. "Monte" Krebs, Janesville (1931 - 2013)

Lamont D. “Monte" Krebs, age 81, of Janesville, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg. He was born in Clinton, on July 19, 1931, the son of Ewalt and Hilda (Voelz) Krebs. He was raised on the family farm at Avalon, and had attended Clinton schools. Following high school, Monte bought an Aronca airplane and took pilot lessons. He entered the US Air Force in 1953, where he worked with the F84 and B-57 aircraft. Monte took a special early discharge to come home and help his father with the farm. After his parents moved to Janesville, he went to work in the construction business as a carpenter. Monte helped build 250-300 homes on the expanding northeast side of Janesville. In November 1961, he married Marlene Dietrich. He bought an interest in a Beech aircraft and they took several trips. In 1980, he joined the Rock County Sheriff Dept. as a deputy. He retired in 1987. Following his retirement from the sheriff department, Monte served as a building inspector for many years for various townships in Rock County.
Monte is survived by his extended family: Rich (Sandi) Crary and their children of Madison; Ruth (Jack Redman) Crary and their children of Denton, TX; Therese Crary of Hiawatha, KS; and Mary (Lavern) Witek and their children of Janesville. He was preceded in death by his parents and good friend and companion, Roberta “Bobby Ann” Crary.
A Celebration of Monte’s life will take place on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY, Janesville.
