Delmar E. Recknagel, 79, of E. First Ave., Elkhorn, WI, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born in the Town of LaGrange, WI, the son of the late August Frederick and Florence Mae (Lean) Recknagel. Del served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Ruby Ann O’Donnell on June 2, 1956, in Lake Geneva, WI. Del worked as a metal spinner for over 35 years with Lake Geneva Spindustries until retiring in 1995. Del was a very selfless and caring man, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather who will be truly missed by all that knew him and loved him. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Elkhorn, Elkhorn VFW and American Legion Post #45. He liked to fish, he especially enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in his backyard.
Del is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruby; three children: David (Angie) Recknagel, Connie (Jerome) Rudolph and Cathy (George) Verdick, all of Elkhorn; five grandchildren: Tyler Meddaugh, Joshua and Nicholas Recknagel, Brittni (Dustin Moody) Recknagel and Katie Rudolph; and one sister, Marian Clary of Elkhorn, WI. Del was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathleen Ann Recknagel; and a brother, Stuart Recknagel.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at FIRST EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH 415 Devendorf Street, Elkhorn, WI, with Rev. David Rau officiating. Private burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Tibbets, WI. Visitation will be at the CHURCH on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
