Seventy-one years later and the "automakers whoop and holler" has given way to thoughts about what might have been regarding closure of "the plant". Unions certainly served an important role over the years in framing workers rights to the point at which we are today. Workers now enjoy the protections and benefits that so many men risked their lives in gaining. Unfortunately, unions were not satisfied with just a "fair wage". They pushed for more and it's been costing us, workers and consumers, more and more as each year we move closer to a global economy.
