Union Pacific train MPRPR makes its typical evening trek up the Harvard Subdivision to South Janesville from the companys Proviso Yard west of Chicago. Snowplows of La Prarie Township provided the snowpile at the crossing on Elm Rd on Saturday morning due to snowfall the night before. Normally another train would have taken care of these piles by now and likely in total darkness, but with traffic down, the planets came into alignment and this photographer lucked out.

Mid morning visitors to heated bird bath outside our dining room windows on Willow Street in Orfordville. This male robin and his mate make regular visits to the warm waters and enjoy the company of many other birds -- Blue Jays, chickadees, mourning doves, cardinals, sparrows, finches, a lone starling, and a number of little birds we have yet to name.
I am the recently retired editor and publisher of the Orfordville Journal and Footville News and now have time to pursue photographing the flora and fauna of our new neighborhood.
We have two bird feeders, suet, and an ear of corn for the squirrel who loves to ground feed under the handing feeders.

Thunder Snow! December 19th at 9:30 a.m. in Poynette, we had thunder snow - coming down at a rate of an inch per half hour, with 20 mph wind and thunder rumbling, yet it didn't seem to bother Old Glory!

Cooper and Melanie Whitescarver along with friends Jacob Punzel and Michael Amundson created a life size mini van with the snow during the warm melt. It took about 8 hours to complete and with all the help about 23 hours. In the picture you can see the van we modeled after.
