give them the licenses because if we have more liquer store's the more jobs and GM closeing down we need all the jobs we can get. and a few people will support the drinking. like a lot of those people who drink on the line and are crying now that GM is on the out's give them a drink on the UAW for not getting more involved in GM,
nutty, alcohol is legal because a majority of the members of this society believe it should be, and a majority of people are able to handle its presence in their lives responsibly. We did try making it illegal, once, and the consequences turned out to be worse for the country as a whole. . Additionally, these are store -- packaged liquor -- licenses, not bars. . I think a cautious increase would be reasonable. Right now we don't have a problem with poorly-managed liquor establishments (certainly compared to in the past). . ropian, more licenses per citizen, and FEWER residents per license. A 1:3500 ratio means 17 or 18 licenses in Janesville. A 1:2500 ratio would increase that to 24 or 25. I think that size of an increase (33%) might be hasty. . What was not answered in the original Gazette article was whether in the peer review the city conducted the other Wisconsin cities averaged a 1:2500 ratio, whether they have a lower average ratio and this was a cautious move in that direction, or whether that number was not studied and the city picked a number out of thin air. I would assume the first, but there wasn't enough information to be sure.
They sounds like a great idea! I always thought we didn't have enough places to go and get plastered.....then DRIVE HOME from! . I'm sure the next family of a person killed by a drunk driver will thank the city if this goes through. . Why is alcohol legal?
That would increase the number of license available. I believe the ratio now is one license per 3,500 residents... but please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
This may be an ignorrant question, but does raising the quota mean that there are more liquor licenses available per citizen or more residents required per liquor license?

Maybe it's just me, but it's a bit ironic that there are three bars and a liquor store within one block of Craig HS.

my vote is no, but if each license is worth 10G's?? to the city, we can be pretty safe in assuming what the outcome will be.
