I have to admit that the price of gas has finally forced me to do what neither my mother, father, police, tickets or anything else was able to and that is drive the speed limit. I don't like it either. I make a point of keeping to the right but on a two lane road there is no other option. Now I feel like an obstacle on the road and some motorists look at me like I'm a menace.

Keep driving what you like even small cars take gas.

I get 33-35 mpg on my commute going 58 mph. I coast to stop signs and don't gun it taking off. That 4 cylinder was a great buy.

i bought a "scangauge II" for my F350 crewcab (i have a business and i deliver and haul product) by slowing down and being easy on the peddle, ive increase my overall mileage about 14% at the pump. It looks like this will save me $1500-$2000 dollars per year. our last vacation we took our diesel car instead of camping with the truck and trailer, and saved well over $100/day on a eight day vacation. that was on $3.50 diesel. and at 50mpg diesel is still better than gas.
if anyone wonders why i dont use a small car when im not hauling product... the savings still would not make up for the cost of insurance and the car.

I don't have the actual numbers but for every 5 mile per hour you go slower, your miles per gallon greatly increases.

Also on most trips (even trips of a hundred miles or so) you only save a few minutes in travel time for every extra 5 miles per hour.

Slow down. If everyone drove at the same speed on cruise control there'd be fewer accidents too. Don't worry about people passing you up.

How much does it save you if you slow down? Just for an example, let's say that I usually drive between 75-80, what if I slowed down to 65?

My car calculates mileage so I can see immediate improvement in my mileage by slowing down.

Okay let me rephrase.

What is wrong with people? I slow down to at or near the speed limit and I get flipped off and honked at and passed.

I drive 50mph on my commute. Usually people pass me like I'm standing still, but who cares. My 11 yr old Saturn averages 41mpg reducing my speed 5mph.

I currently work in Madison, and I started riding a state vanpool a year and a half ago to save gas money. I drive every Friday and have recently started setting the cruise at 65 on I-90. I usually get flipped off 3-5 times each way and tailgated, even in the right lane, all the way. It's all worth it because my gas does get me much further than when I'd drive 70-75 on the I. I would be more than willing to go 55 on the I if it would help conserve gas. It's amazing how fast people are willing to drive to shave 5 minutes off their trip.

I voted no because my car gets over 30 per gallon. Unfortunately, I've only taken my hot rod out twice, as it gets about 11 to the gallon, with a tailwind.

I have a rant if we are talking about speeding and the likes. The one I don't understand is the intersection out on Hwy 14 by Lyon's Quick Mart and the jail. Can someone please explain to me why at the stop and go light people in the left lane race the people in the right lane going past Lyon's just to turn either left or right on to County F? I thought the two lanes that merge in to one lane was meant for those turning into Lyon's going west on Hwy 14, not to be jerks and race people and just have to slow down anyway to turn a 1/4 mile down the road.

my car gets about 28 miles per gallon, and it's very old. I usually take off fast from stops (after checking to make sure everything is all clear) and come to complete stops at stop signs (to come to a complete stop, your car should rock back slightly... most people don't do that.) Both of those are bad for your fuel economy. I also put my clutch in when I'm going down hill. Once I get up to the speed limit, I cruise at low RPMs to conserve gas. My driving habits haven't changed since I began driving, even though gasoline prices have risen dramatically. I also live out in California where gas is about $4.30 a gallon right now.

I've already stated it, but no, I am not driving slower to conserve gas. I probably would if I were driving a truck with half the fuel economy, though.

I drive the speed limit, therefore, I voted no. I would have to leave sooner if I drove slower than the speed limit and I'm lucky I get places on time the way it is. I can't see my own personality getting ready EARLY! :) And as for staying on topic...they didn't ask if they would slow down for safety...they asked if they'd slow down for $$$ on gas.

Your right spikesmom. I live on Johnson street
and cars fly down it 40 to 50 mph . I`m not kidding. They don`t even slow down or look both ways at the unmarked intersections.
Not only don`t they care about gas prices
they don`t care about their lives or others.

i care about people on the rode i think going under the speed limit is just as rude and unsafe as going over the speed limit, i come over a hill and come up on someone being "SAFE" going 47mph in a 55 is just a dangerous..just a thought.

I don't go more than 2 mph over the speed limit. A ticket is more expensive than the extra mph in gas.

It looks like speeding is going up in Janesville. People don't care about anybody else on the road in this town.
