Farmgirl, maybe someone should look into this. the Y is suppose to be a "non-profit" organization, designed to help the less fortunate, and to make a young man/person life better (Young Mans Christian Association). Maybe things have changed at the Y, so maybe they shouldn't be getting the tax credits they do (for being a non-profit organization).

jmags: that is what I had thought but WRONG, all they said they could do was wave the registration fee, but that there was still the (high)monthly fee we had to pay. Didn't matter if we were low enough income to qualify for Badgercare and the free school hot lunch. All they want is money, not to help those in the community who could use it the most. I thought that is why (ha ha) the Y started

I remember when it was for the poorer families but not anymore !!!

If you can't afford a membership to the Y then the Y is suppose to work with low income families to be able to join the Y

Open up the gyms and the pool to the public. We pay for these things, after all.

ilovehockey - I don't think that people shopping in the mall should have to watch out for people that are exercising... The mall is not a gym...

rooster: are you going to pay for my Y membership? Because I sure don't have the extra money to pay for one. I think this a great idea considering as tax payers are already paying for the new gymnasiums and the up keep of the facilities.

I think it would be great when the weather isn't so great, like January. The mall has too many non walkers that don't pay attention to where they are going, and not everyone can afford the membership at the Y.

I walk all summer long and when the weather permits. I would love to use the gym if the weather was inclimate or too cold outside. After all I do pay for it with my tax dollars! and there shouldn't be a fee to use it since we already pay taxes to build and fund it all year long!

Is this leading to schools making money? Why not open schools to all citizens for free. After all we do pay for these gyms. Please tell me this is not a R. Steeber project?

The Mall. The Y. The natural walks. The Trails. The Parks. Your well policed areas. Tredmills.
I dont see why this has even become an idea.
Does the school make money on this? Will they loose money when I have a stroke there? Or Slip on floor? Nurse or monitor on hand? Pay janitor to sweap up too? Refreshments? Popcorn? Power bars? Shower access?
Heck why dont we just create a membership and utilise the gyms for the summer as an extension City Health Care System sponsored, but fee'd deal? Maybe take care of some walkways and roads with the moneys? Posibly lowering the school distr.taxes too?

I would rather have access to the outdoor track and weight room like my hometown allowed while I was in high school. They had "open gym" times for the general public. Not a bad idea since the general public are the ones paying for these facilities.

So is the school board liable if a non-student walker gets hurt? What is wrong with walking outside?

I'd be interested in using the weight room at Craig in addition to walking or running in the gym.

What’s good for the Parker is good for the CraigBy FRANK SCHULTZ ( Contact ) Tuesday, May 13, 2008
.
"Good point, said Doug Bunton, director of business services, but in this case, creating the practice rooms frees up space in the new gymnasiums, which will help students in other sports teams get their practices done and get home earlier.

Getting athletes home earlier was a major goal of the referendum planning, Bunton said. And, if only Parker got a wrestling room, then Craig athletic practices would have gone later at night than those at Parker.

The Parker coaching and phy ed staffs reviewed the plans and believe they can live with it . . ."
.
If the school district now has extra time to open up the ‘field houses’ to the general public it makes me wonder why the extra money was spent for separate wrestling areas.

Just wondering why you ask. Are they thinking of opening the gym to the public to walk?
I like to walk outside instead of inside round and round. THe mall seems pretty busy in the morning with mall walkers.
