I'll be at Janesville Ren Faire, cooking for our group. Jefferson is great for races, not too far to drive. Breakfast at the Looking Glass on Saturday mornings. The Beloit farmer's Market is wonderful. Coffe from Bagel's and More is a must.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the races! We don't go all that often but look forward to it nonetheless. We also do a lot of back yard bonfires in the firepit, drive-in movies, gardening, play with our dogs, check out state and county parks in southern WI, and whatever festivals/fairs/markets happen to be going on.

phyllijb, I love the Port Washington Pirate Fest! How much fun is that?! I also go to the Janesville Renaissance Faire. I dress up and just switch up my outfits a bit for each event. Less than 2 weeks till the Faire :) I may even make it to Bristol this year.

phyllijb- if you need more lawn to run that mower over, send them on over to do mine. I am sure I can find something else to do instead of doing it myself. Just my little contribution to your effort to keep them from being bored. :)

Summer never starts here, we are always working towards it. Scoopie night at Court St Culver's for 4-h tonight, Parkview Art show tonight. Janesville Renaissance Faire, Port Washington Pirate Fest, Beloit Farmer's Market, Fourth of July activities(thank you Odd Fellows), Janesville Farmer's Market, 4-h fair, Rock Around the Block and family reunion. If I hear anyone say "I'm bored" I'll chain them to the lawnmower.

tloudon7992,
So sitting on your butt watching baseball is an active sport? I am not saying that golf is extremely physically demanding, but a lot more than sitting in a box seat. And don't use the 16 oz curl excuse. Golfers do that plus swing the club so they are working out twice as hard as you using your example.

Emmo46- I agree! Fishing should have been one of the top choices for this Poll. This is Wisconsin, afterall!
My husband and I went to Yellowstone Lake on Saturday. I got a 21" Walleye and he got a 5# bass. Of course they both went back into the water, (slot limit on Yellowstone is 15-18" for walleye, and we never keep Bass.)
Panfish weren't biting yet, though. The water was still around 57-8 degrees.
See ya out there!

Yes we have already started our projects too. Can't really wait until mid July to plant the veggies, build the rockets, plan the float, or train the pigs. First softball game is Wednesday and I am looking forward to the Milwaukee trip in June. Add to that the community service projects and other events all year and 4H is definitely not just fair week!

going to leave janesville to visit madison and milwaukee to see the zoos. Too bad Janesville doesn't have a zoo, thatd bring in more dollars than a museum or the ice rink!

MikeF I meant rocket launch...should have double checked before I hit send LOL

chelleandlou: You sound like a typical 4H family too....gotta love it though, keeps the kids busy and active, not much time left in the day to get into trouble.

Me, I don't get to really relax until Labor day weekend when I get to have fun driving my tractor in the parade at the Thresheree, and camping with friends who also derive/show steam engines there.

MikeF: I could NEVER wait until just before fair to finish the 35 projects that are going to fair. It would be a impossible task to accomplish. I truly don't know how those kids that do, do that ever manage to pull it off...guess I am a slave driver and make my daughter finish them well before they are due. I know you and your family are very involved with 4H and spend many hours preparing for the fair as well. I can't imagine you let them wait till the last minute.LOL oh by the way good luck at the rock practice launch coming up, won't be there this year.

twerp13 - first two weeks are dedicated to 4H? You are not a real 4H'er unless you wait till and dedicate the LAST 2 weeks before fair to STARTING and finishing your projects. :)
That said, the first thing we are doing this summer is hitting the farmer's market...opens May 9th!

Fishing should be one of the choices!
Today is opening day. It's one activity that does not require a lot of travel or cost. Go down to the river or pond, drop in a worm or throw a small lure and enjoy the weather. Kids love it and old people will teach the kids.
Or, you can buy a fancy boat, all the latest stuff, and "stimulate" the economy.

First things my daughter has to do is finish the 4H projects that were started over the winter, after all the fair is less than 2 months away! We may be able to get hiking/biking in as a extra when she goes to collect her wildflowers for a 4H project. Otherwise the first 2 weeks of summer is dedicated to 4H.
*
After the fair stuff is done then we can get down to camping and biking and going fishing and shoping flea markets.
