Staying home and doing some spring cleaning, while kiddo works on 4-H fair projects. The only vacation we really get, if you can call it that is the last week in July at the fair ;)

Those that are looking for jobs: McDonalds is hiring. Oh, and there are some $9 an hour jobs with no benefits in Evansville, and some coming very soon to Pleasant Prairie. Get that resume in order, though, you'll be in competition for those 100 jobs with the teachers from Janesville! Wow...what an amazing job Walker is doing-replacing professional jobs with poorly paid manual labor ones. (sarcasm)Also, if we (WI) are so broke, what is with the news that Senator Hopper's little girlfriend just got a $12,000/year raise for doing the same job as the one she replaced at the Capitol? It isn't who you know, but...

Ha Ha, RAF is complaining about his over-time at Old Navy again.

goodone, thanks for clarifying that. I thought you meant that workers in general were not needed in this day and age...or maybe that's what you really did mean?

but you don't generally have feces thrown on you at Old Navy. In a prison, that's nearly an everyday experience. Take that, RAF, for 16 hours straight knowing that the people in Wisconsin you are "protecting" this prisoner from treats you much like the prisoner. NO THANKS. and please don't call me ignorant. I'm far from it. Thanks.

Gov.Walker has only been in office for just two months and businesses are now moving to Wisconsin and businesses are starting to hire again because of Walker's leadership and direction. A great improvement since Doyle's time in Office. The proof in the pudding is that right to work states are where businesses are relocating and hiring people. If Wisconsin would become a right to work state, we would be really starting a boom economy. There are now 26 states that are right to work states and they have the big edge. We need to get with it here. The union's excessive demands have made it impossible for companies to fully compete in the world markets and driven companies overseas Over 88% of workers in this country are non-union and get along just fine. They are not needed in this day and age.

yes, Frogger, I have done my research. I have applications out in many different states. I was hoping to stay in Wisconsin, but it feels very much like I will just be in "everyone's way" as a public employee.

I certainly believe everyone should contribute to their retirement and health care packages and every public employee I've talked about this with agrees. It is not about the health care or the retirement contributions. It is about collective bargaining and seniority as a public worker. People who don't work in a prison or jail or work as a firefighter or police officer or crisis worker cannot understand the toll that mandated overtime puts on a person. There are people who want (and need) the overtime pay and there are people who don't want/can't work overtime hours, but due to the necessity to have staff present in these capacities in order to protect and serve must maintain. Without the seniority in place, a "bad" supervisor can approach you and tell you that you MUST work a double shift (or that you cannot work the extra hours, even if you want to). In the current situation, the first person offered the overtime is the highest in seniority. If that person declines, it goes to next highest, etc. I want to work so I can live, not live to work. I don't know if people understand that concept or the potential consequences.

I have worked in this field...I just didn't have the piece of paper that most agencies now require. I have more experience in Criminal Justice than many care to know about. That's ok, I just don't appreciate the steps that have been taken recently to undermine the work that those of us in Public Safety do on a regular basis...or the potential consequences of removing collective bargaining on maintaining a qualified, unified staff that seeks to keep you and the rest of the community safe. I'm not saying they will no longer work to their potential, I just think many will leave the profession either to other (less dangerous) positions or to other jurisdictions (out of state). That will not improve the State of Wisconsin.

And my rant really has nothing to do with Spring Break, except that I have been using it to search for work outside of the state of Wisconsin.

"I do my job VERY well"
I thought you didn't have a job?
I still don't get why you cannot have a job here. You don't want one just because you have to contribute to your own health care and pension? Isn't that what all the bi$#%#% is about with Walker.
So you go to a diffenret state. They include this but I bet your pay will be different.

Here is an example for you "lets move to a state with out state tax-"
okay you can pay you vehicle registration by the VALUE of your automobile- WHOA-SMACK!
We pay 100-200 approx a year depending on the type of plate you have.
How about thaT WATER BILL in Arizona- wonder what those run- oh sorry you cannot use it sometimes at all.
Like some boddy said the grass ISN'T greener on the other side. I figure if they don't get you one way it will be a different way.
Cheap homes going south BUT you may need to replace everything you own because you are in tornado lane. Education- talk about it try living south!!! It sucks there. I don't mean sucks like you think it sucks here- I mean for real sucks.
You get into Il a bit and sales tax is over 8%.
Your trade in car is not taken off the price of the car and then you pay tax. Lease taxes in IL are based on RETAIL not what you buy the car for.
I would do some research before you go a packing. I have figured you to be a smart girl and assume you will do this!!

Property values are not only dropping JUST here it ia all over.

NOT EVERY person working in criminal justice carries a gun. I do my job VERY well, thank you. I have concern and respect for my co-workers, neighbors, public employees, and yes, even people who don't agree with everything I have to say. But that certainly doesn't mean I don't have the right to voice my opinion about how public employees are being treated by our governor.

grandy, I think you should look up Criminal Justice employment options. Not everyone carries guns, first of all...and secondly, my beef is not with my inability to get a job offer, as I have had plenty of those (but made the choice not to quit school in order to take the position), but to have a job where the people I will be serving didn't have such a bad attitude toward public employees.

ms_sassy_wi - While your frustration with school and finding a job is quite evident (and I'm sorry you're having a difficult time), but blaming Walker for your troubles, is really a stretch. There are millions of Americans struggling with your same situation. The job market and economy has been terrible for the last three years. This was during a different administration who is to blame for some of this states mess. Certainly not the current. Not sure what your future job plans are in the public sector (police/firefighter, etc.). This is something that just occurred and really hasn't even gone through yet. Actually, many states are in way worse shape than we are. Best of luck.

totellanotherlie...there are no jobs in LE anymore because no one in Wisconsin has their backs. I will be damned if I put my life on the line for someone who doesn't have my back. Pre-Walker, LE was one of the careers with the best job security. I did my homework before choosing what career the State of Wisconsin was going to pay me to go to school for. Now I can take that education and move to another state where I will have some job security and the residents will have a bit of a better attitude. Just the motivation I needed to move onward. By the way: thank an officer or firefighter, nurse, teacher, etc. the next time you see one in the line of duty. They work to help you out. Whether you want to acknowledge it or not is up to you...

Pay those taxes and smile while you do! Then wait...your day is coming when you will be standing in the Unemployment line (or filing online, since there is no actual "line" that you stand in-I know this from real experience, remember?).

I've been laid off for the last few weeks and spent the whole time beating the pavement, looking for a new job. Thankfully, I found one quickly (so glad I got that college degree) but I don't start until the 28th. So, during spring break, I'll be able to relax and have fun with the kids. (I suppose I should squeeze a little house work in there too. Bummer.)

totellthetruth, I'm not sure what it was about my comment that made you believe I am from Beloit...I'm not, but that is really not at issue.

yeah, I will do well elsewhere. Just wait till you need a cop or firefighter to help you out. Will you bust their chops like you are busting all public workers...or will you want them to somehow forgive you for taking away the ability for them to decide that the overtime they are expected to work is/is not in the best interest of the people they serve? or if/when a riot in a prison breaks out...hmmm? who will have those correction officers' backs? obviously NOT YOU. Walker is to blame. Doyle wasn't a good governor, but this is definitely NOT his fault. I don't know where that came from. sheesh.

totellthetruth, I'm going to school (which the State of Wisconsin paid for because my job was eliminated, by the way)...to be in the PUBLIC SAFETY field. No way in hell I will take a job where the people I am working for don't have my back, even though I will be putting MY safety on the line. I'll move to another state and offer them the services that I would have been more than happy to provide Wisconsinites pre-Walker. And spend my money in that state, and pay my sales and property taxes in that state. You see where this is headed...
