thanks frusion. I am icing and splinting it. It's been almost 2 months and not sure if it's getting better or not...still a lot of pain and swelling, but I'm doing what I can at home. I ended up getting 2 diff. splints, but they were $5. ea at Walgreen's. Gotta love helpful family members! :)
Ms sassy, I don't know how long you've been dealing with your finger but if you need to self treat, at least splint it. Look up treatment on the Internet and you'll find it should be splinted for about 5 weeks. You can get very comfortable splints for under $10 at woodmans. I went through this last year and now my finger is back to normal.
no insurance+no money=no doctor visits-routine or otherwise...I have a broken finger that is not healing correctly...ugh. good thing I don't need my left hand. :(
I don't even HAVE a primary doctor. I called Urgent Care after I injured my finger. Explained my situation. I was told it would be more economical for me to go to an orthopedic specialist. I called the orthopedic spec. and again gave my situation. I was told to go to Urgent Care as that would be best for my situation. If people that are actually IN the health care field don't know what's going on, how do they expect the average person to know how to advocate for themselves?! I will likely need surgery now, but that is even less likely a possibility...which makes me REALLY wonder how much of this could have been avoided...OR is that the goal of those in the medical field...give confusing information to patients so that the uninsured (and not on any State financial program including medical assistance) will just not waste their time or resources. So much for NON-PROFIT medical care with the patient's health in mind.
On the other hand, the funeral cost is much less than going to the doctor for years to have him/her to prescribe stuff you really don't need just to pad his pockets for selling more pills.
Frogger: As someone who works with uninsured people throughout this country I find your comment completely uninformed. Last I heard there was an estimated 46 million uninsured Americans. Do you have any idea what healthcare costs? Do you have any idea what it costs when you don't have insurance and don't get the benefit of an insurance contract writeoff? This country is in crisis. Yes everyone should go to the dr, but they don't because many cannot afford to see a dr as they often require upfront payments when you don't have insurance and there are only so many free or reduced clinics such as Crusader in Rockford to go around. As a result many turn to the ER and use it like a primary care clinic because under EMTALA Medicare participating hospitals can't just turn people away due to inability to pay. As for those with insurance it's not always as simple as a 20% copay of $50. Are you aware medical debt is the number one reason for bankruptcy in this country?

jimmyjohn- I agree everybody loves nuts too unless you are allergic !) People need to be aware!! There is a side bar about going to see your Doc. People are so cheap and they wont see the doc unless something is wrong because they would have to pay 20% or less!! Just because you feel fine doesn't mean you don't need preventive measures like mamograms.A funeral is quit pricey as well!! I don't think my mom goes and my dad wont go to any "quack" like you can diagnos your own health. He is long over do for a colonoscopy. Mom thinks she doesn't need check ups because she doesn't have some of the parts anymore. SEE your Doctor!!!!! Maybe the kids in the school will besmart and tell the parent to get to the Doctor. Or maybe not since the adult is smarter than the child - NOT. If you find somethign early it can save you life. Is the 20% really worth dying for?

I didn't vote because there isn't the option that states "Only when I'm really sick."
