Sheriff's department vehicle in accident

By Mike Heine ( Contact )   January 21, 2008 - 6:27 p.m.

SPRING PRAIRIE—A Walworth County sheriff’s lieutenant was involved in a minor traffic accident Monday afternoon.

At 3:43 p.m., a Nissan Titan pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old East Troy girl slid through a stop sign on Hargraves Road at County D in Spring Prairie Township.

She slid into the path of Lt. Kevin Williams, who was driving an unmarked Chevy Tahoe westbound on County D. The Tahoe was unable to stop and hit the passenger side of the pickup, State Trooper Robert Borek said.

Borek cited the 16-year-old for failure to stop. The road was snow-covered and slippery, Borek said.

There were no injuries. Both drivers, the sole occupants in their vehicles, were wearing seatbelts, he said.

The sheriff’s vehicle was towed. Its airbag had deployed, Borek said.

It's quite simple. The police are there to issue citations, not receive them.

this is so sad that we hear all this about the cop not getting tickets, i had a sheriff following me to close all the way on hwy 51, he was way to close to me and i was driving 5 to 7 below the speed limit. i was a getting upset and i was going to call him in. it was getting very slippery at 5 p.m. and right in front of me there was a car speeding and he let the car go speeding down the road I couldn't believe it

Just to clear up a misconception from Mymaro's comment...
The Wisconsin State Patrol investigated this accident and ticketed the 16-year-old driver, not the Walworth County Sheriff's Department.

wow. what a surprise. the 16 year old gets a ticket. WHY didnt the delavan cop that rear ended that woman on highway 50 get a ticket then? they said it wasnt his fault because the roads were slippery. but this girl was ticketed because she slid through a stop sign on slippery roads? TALK ABOUT HYPOCRITICAL. and it was a walworth county deputy that responded to the accident on highway 50. so how does the SAME department ticket a civilian for doing NOTHING worse than a police officer who got nothing?
