Rock County added enforcement for Break in Weather

By Ann Marie Ames ( Contact )   April 18, 2008 - 2:46 p.m.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office issued 26 citations, wrote seven warnings and made eight arrests during the April 12 Break in the Weather party.

Deputies made 63 tavern checks in the Newville, Charley Bluff and Indianford area. Officers issued 17 uniform traffic citations, one municipal littering citation and seven warnings for equipment or traffic related offenses and made five arrests for operating while intoxicated and one warrant arrest.

Six extra patrol units were assigned in Fulton and Milton townships over the weekend.

The efforts were made possible by money provided by the state of Wisconsin intended to enforce laws against consumption of alcohol by minors.

cocktail i have been out of janesville, ive lived in 38 states as a matter of fact,i just chose janesville,as my permanent resindence. but i will say one thing about janesville and other places i have lived, there are always people like you who make remarks such as the white trash remark.i guess thats what bohtered me the most, and u right about the extra security at the party, it was needed, and the park,i guess u could walk up there, but why should they, when they can open the road, but maybe they better not because the park might be invaded of your version of white trash.

melstew47:

So the “mean” comment I made about the park was “Keep the road closed. If you want to see the view, walk up there.”

If you think that is mean, I would suggest never leaving Janesville. The real world would eat you alive!

Ah, Rock County's annual White Trash Party! Good Times! I am glad they increased law enforcement presence in the area.

People who think people are ticket happy, are just plain annoying. Your woe is me story is so obvious in those blanket statements. The police are there to uphold the civilain obligations to the safety of others. If you or anyone else chooses to break the law, of course you think the police are the enemy, when in actuality, YOU or they are the enemy. NO! I didn't attend this year, nor have I in recent years past. I fizzeled out about 4 years ago when there were out of control young drunks that didn't know how to behave in public, and made it miserable to be there. Everything that is in good taste is always ruined by someone at one time or another. I just wish the trouble makers would stay away. There are streets in the city to roam if you are looking for trouble...where you can find others who are wondering the streets looking for trouble, and you all can hook up and make your own party...leave the upstanding civilians alone!!

wonders, and others...every year the police dept has an event (Traxler Park, in the recent years) to support your opinion (and mine) that law enforcement is NOT here to be the bad guys, but to help the good ones...it's called "National Night Out" (Aug. 25, 2008) which is intended to provide families and children with crime and drug prevention assistance. I know it's not about the break in the weather party, but it's an attempt the JPD makes to get kids on the "right page"

Anyway, my point is that I think the law enforcement does a fine job of making us safe in Rock County, using resources and funding to the best of their ability. they deserve a pat on the back and some respect for their efforts once in a while. give 'em a break...

Apparently, all the Deputies doing their jobs isn't good enough for some people these days. If you don't like it, run for an office and change it.

Hey jvlgirl, I sit and read some of the on-line complainers all of the time. It sounds as though the Sheriffs Dept. did an outstanding job this year. Anytime there is a large event, extra enforcment has to be available. It's no different than going to a Packer game. Do you think the Packers pay for extra police? Usually the ones that complain about law enforcement are pretty "shady" charactors themselves. We live in a society where no one takes responsibility for their actions...it's always somebody elses fault, right. Unfortunately, "Common Sense" finds the backseat when drinking is involved, thus Law Enforcement has to be involved. I don't attend the "Break" party...I just don't like large crowds, but the Anchor Inn has rights too. God Bless America!

After reading some of the comments I would like to add some thoughts. The extra enforcement coupled with bar owners finally not allowing those under 21 on their premises attributed to the success of the event. People are all to often eager to criticize police for doing their jobs. Extra funds for enforcement aided in curbing underage drinking as well as other violations. The biggest violation I saw were people walking up and down streets with open beer cans. Common sense would dictate you shouldn't walk around in public with an open beer can so why do it at the Break in the Weather party. Those ticketed only have themselves to blame.

Bill, no not at all, any officer that come in contact with anyone breaking the law has the authority to make that arrest. But the point I am attempting to make I seem to not be doing a very good job at. The break in the weather party is nothing new. The sheriff’s dept. can budget in costs for special events. I would think there are monies out there to help curb drunk drivers. Things like road check points that are aimed at driving under the influence. The monies for the prevention of underage drinking could be used so much better, at least I think so. Something like law enforcement teen night to let the teens know the police are not all bad. That is just one idea that comes to mind

optimism, did you go this year? It wasn't even close to an out of control mosh pit. Hardly anyone was there. That could have something to do with the lack of tickets everyone loves to see issued.

Optimisim your right Thank God No one got injured but until last year no one cared about underage drinking...finally I saw some gates up and people carding! That will really deter from the underage drinking because I know I got in after 18.

Well thank goodness no one was struck on the highway again and killed like last year. That was terrible. At least most of these people were stopped before they could have injured someone for real. This party used to be innocent fun, now it is an out of control mosh pit.

It isn't the tavern owners who decided to ban drinking by people under 21, it was the people of Wisconsin through their legislature and governor that enacted that law, and it is the people of Wisconsin through their justice system that are responsible for enforcing that law as well as the other laws that the police enforced that day.

the problem i see with this is why for one business to make extra money , are the tax payers footing the bill for all for these police officers, the bar owner created the need , they should then pay for the extra enforcement

I wonder Wonders, don't you get the idea that if an officer is in a place for one reason, he can't ignore other reasons for action? Doesn't the officer's presence deter underage drinking? Unlike seasoned law breakers who would get a kick out of pulling something under the officer's nose, most kids are deterred by the officer just being there. Isn't crime deterrence a responsible use of public funds, even if it doesn't generate fines?

Does anyone remember the fatal car accident last year? I'm sure that had quite a bit to do with extra enforcement.

13 not at all I am glad there were extra deputies on hand. My little blog was this, you paid the extra money for enforcement of minors, yes YOU through taxes. The money that is intended for a use should be used for what the intention is. That is how Government spending gets out of control, they use your SS money to pay other bills on the federal level, the money that is ear marked for a specific idea should only be used for that..I don't remember any underage drinkers busted during the break in the weather party ever, I could be wrong and if I am someone please correct me.

So just because the money was intended to bust minors, were deputies supossed to just turn their head when they saw some of age moron breaking the law? Just because they busted more of age people does not mean they miused the funds or didn't do their job. I saw 4 Deputies and a SGT when I was in the tent and I was thankful because there were many idiots there. Thanks guys for all your hard work!!! I feel safer with you around!!!
