Wis. governor reports more than $1 million in bank

By Associated Press   July 22, 2008 - 7:19 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Jim Doyle has more than $1 million in his campaign fund that can be used if he decides to seek a third term in 2010, his campaign said Monday.

The Democratic governor reported raising more than $905,000 during the first six months of this year. Doyle has not announced whether he is going to run in 2010, but is acting like a candidate. He has hired campaign aides and continued to raise money, two moves that signal he is leaning in that direction.

At the same time, there is speculation that Doyle could leave his post to join Sen. Barack Obama’s administration if Obama is elected president in November. Doyle has been a prominent Obama backer and helped him earn an impressive victory in Wisconsin’s primary in February.

Doyle’s campaign finance report filed with the Government Accountability Board shows his campaign spent $234,000 so far this year. It also says he has nearly $1.1 million in the bank.

The fundraising included a June golf outing with donors that drew criticism from Republicans for coming in the middle of statewide flooding. Doyle said he remained in close contact during the day with aides and responders.

His fundraising pace puts him behind where he was at this point during his first term, when he had $1.6 million in the bank.

The Supreme Court has nothing to do with Wisconsin's fiscal woes, and our money problems were evident long before Mother Nature began dumping historic amounts of rain and snow.
Yes, you can blame Doyle for raiding funds and continuing to spend more than the state takes in. He has said it many times: It's not that the state doesn't take in enough money. It's that we spend to much.
He ought to start acting accordingly.

You can not blame the Gov for most of our money probs. The supreme court has been bought by big buisness(wmc). Mother nature has had her hand in the cookie jar as well. I personally did not live in the state when the Gov was voted in but he must have some friends if in 6 months he raised that kind of $.

It is strange. He has a surplus in his campaign account, but he has run our state into a defict. I guess that is the difference when you play with other peoples money you are not as careful.

Maybe the Doyle friends could lend the Shetler family some help with their needed dental bill? It would do more good.

He should take his money, and invest it in a Dollar store. The change of pace would do him good.

Doyle is a clown. I hope somebody worthy challenges him in his re-election bid.
