Wisconsin group urges lower greenhouse gases

By Associated Press   July 24, 2008 - 3:49 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin should reduce greenhouse gases to 2005 levels within the next six years and cut that by another 75 percent by mid-century.

Those are among the final recommendations from Gov. Jim Doyle’s global warming task force released Thursday.

The task force suggests designating a single agency to coordinate data collection on greenhouse gases, more investment in research into greenhouse gas reduction technologies and a cap-and-trade program, be it a national or regional effort.

The panel also recommends statewide standards for siting wind farms, studying the potential for offshore wind farms in the Great Lakes and increasing electricity generated from renewable sources. The report now goes to Doyle for his consideration.

kiowamohican, that's why if you notice they've switched from "global warming" to calling it "climate change", that way they're covered no matter what happens. Plus any time there's a big storm/hurricane/tornado/draught/flood, they can point to climate change. Its a very convenient theory.

However, even though I don't see CO2 as a pollutant, there are other emissions which are rightfully called pollutants. I haven't had time to search for the full report (if its even available online), but I'm curious if nuclear is even mentioned, since it's the biggest emissions-free source of electricity we have. Dominion is already preparing for building a new plant elsewhere, and now that they've acquired Kewaunee they could do the same in WI. I say go for it.

yeah; Co2 is just one greenhouse gas. Water vapor is actually the most prevalent green house gas. This is why former NASA scientist; Roy Spencer, and others have argued the whole green house gases, and global warming to be complete junk science, based off climate models that don't even factor in many key variables.

Don't kid yourself, there is MASSIVE profit in going green. Al Gore is on his way to billionaire status promoting all this nonsense, all the while he creates a bigger carbon footprint then a small city, all by himself.

This whole thing is plain and simply nothing more then a global wealth redistribution scam. As the climate continues to decline in temperature, as it has the past 10 years, you will soon hear about the coming of the next ice age, much as you did on all the news covers in the 70's.

What I would like to know is who are the people this task force was populated with?
Was it made up of Doyle's political cronies, someone with an axe to grind against the oil companies, or just someone who thinks they know everything about climate change but can only name one greenhouse gas?

I see Wind Turbine siting reform is in the works by Governor Doyle's task force. The farmers that host the turbines get a very small amount and lose the rights to their own land for 20 - 30 years.
Wind Siting reform means that local governments will not have a say in the way they want their town to grow. It is taking away local rights.
The State will remove the power of the township to make ordinances. This is a drastic step.

To lakennedy:

Plant more trees. The trees will help lower greenhouse gases. Wisconsin would benefit from this if they planted trees in urban areas.

Just how much did this "report" cost us taxpayers? Going back to pre-industrial revolution will do what exactly for our economy and standard of living?
