Warning on travel agency

By Gazette Staff   July 25, 2008 - 5:16 p.m.

MADISON

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection issued an alert Friday afternoon about a questionable travel agency soliciting business this weekend in Wisconsin.

Elite Escapes International has been mailing letters to consumers and meeting them at local hotels. The agency is headed to Milwaukee this weekend and might be going to other Wisconsin communities as well, the consumer protection department reported.

The attorney general of Kansas shut down Elite Escapes International in that state because of alleged deceptive acts, the Wisconsin agency reported.

When granting a temporary restraining order, the Kansas court found multiple violations including:

--The business sends prize notices to consumers but fails to tell them the they must sit through a sales presentation before they can receive the prize.

--The business tells consumers that they will receive substantial discounts when in fact the prices offered are no less than the prices available to the general public.

--The business tells consumers they must buy the travel services on the same day as the presentation to get the discount when in fact the business offers the same discount at every sales presentation.

Common sense would save many people a lot of time and money.

If it sounds too good to be true... it probably is.

I think billy mays says what ever they tell him to with one hand pointing towards the oxy clean and the other waiting for the money. He is a joke. Is there nothing he won't sell?

Ahh Ha, someone else who thinks oxy clean is crap. We went to one of those time share things in the dells, I did not think we were going to come out alive. Beware. There are restrictions with those airline tickets as well. Most of the time all users of the tickets must be 21 or older, and there are several restrictions. My sister in law got some. All we got was a turkey.
