Welcome to Walworth County

Hey,

Welcome to Walworth County.

Chances are you’re one of about 9,300 new residents living here since the last census. You’ve helped grow the county’s population by 10 percent to 101,315 people.

You love our small towns, farmland, pristine lakes and outdoor recreational opportunities. You came here to live among country folks, but you like being close to major cities.

Maybe you commute to work. Maybe you live here part-time in your second home. Maybe you’re lucky enough to live and work in Walworth County.

You probably moved here to get farther away from Milwaukee or its suburbs. You might have migrated from Illinois.

Well, thanks for making this among the fastest growing counties in the state, but don’t change our way of life.

We like knowing our neighbors. We say “hello” when we pass one another on the street. We don’t talk on our cell phones in lines at grocery stores.

We never pass others while towing boats. We’re slow to slam our horns. We don’t tailgate drivers. We dislike road rage.

If you came from Illinois, the Packers are kings up here. Brats are served with mustard and sauerkraut. Cheese and sausage qualifies as an entrée. Beer is preferred to wine.

We’re dairy farmers, bankers and blue-collar workers. We’re proud of not having big-city amenities. We prefer a slower pace.

We’re glad you’re here, but we hope to preserve what makes this place great.

Welcome to Walworth County.

I looked for three years at homes for sale in Walworth county before buying in Janesville. The difference in home prices and property taxes was very evident. In my un-official research, Rock County ran 20-25% LESS. I have never regretted my decision.

Walworth County is also a bedroom community for the professionals of Milwaukee, Madison, and Northern Illinois....new construction portends the increase in the upper middle class and the slow erosion of the middle class. An interesting evolution to becoming a mirror image of the the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago.

cspenser, c'mon, never once did he portray Walworth County people beer drinking Packer fans with cheeseheads on! Everyone knows how much Wisconsinites love our Packers and this state is also very well known for it's alcohol use as a whole. I thought the article portrayed Walworth County as a very relaxing, beautiful place to live, next to the "northwoods" of course!

We do indeed love our Walworth County, but please don't portray us all as beer drinking Packer fans with cheeseheads on. I love my Packers to death but wouldnever dream of coloring my hair green and yellow etc. I really do not like all of the pictures of these guys in the crowd durng the game! We have culture and occasionally drink wine instead of beer!!!!

Walworth County - the Lake Wobegon of Southern Wisconsin where, according to Garrison Keillor, "all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average".

Wow that’s one expensive time share. $185,000 x4 =$740.000 with a yearly upkeep bill of $38,400
