Council hires Levitt

By Marcia Nelesen ( Contact )   October 1, 2008 - 12:30 p.m.

The Janesville City Council has offered Eric Levitt a contract to be new city manager.

Levitt said he expects to sign the contract Thursday morning.

Amy Loasching, council president, said the comments the city delegation heard from community members in Sedona, Ariz., were overwhelmingly positive.

Loasching expects Levitt to begin work here Dec. 16.

Levitt will replace Steve Sheiffer, who retired as city manager after 21 years.

clark_kent, I would agree that a check needs to be done. But it is not a job for someone with no experience. How about other city employees that are trained or hiring a person from private industry that has the experience. If you do not know how to conduct a proper background check, it becomes a waste of time and money. I have heard nothing to indicate those that went had any training. Can you agree with this??

All you idiots that hate Janesville and bash it sure do spend a lot of time on this website whining like a bunch of Sally's an awful lot. Good God.

The Janesville delegates (that's funny) heard from the community members in Sedona, AZ. I'm sure they were hand picked to make sure no negative comments would have been made.

dawger, you are a moron. Let's assume they had not fully checked him out, hired him anyways, and then some negative information is revealed later, or even worse he fails miserably. You would be the first one out here blogging that the council did not do it's job in fully researching his credentials and abilities. Amy Loasching is doing a great job as Council President. We are lucky to have her.

Heres a bit of trivia. Did you know that Sarah Palin the republican VP candidate has been working on her "debate practices" and staying at John McCains retreat in Sedona this week? Hmmmm,Interesting.

Some people are never satisfied. If you google his name here are some solicited opinions on a local website (read the post, then click on "Comments"):

This in addition to the opinions that the Gazette found in its sampling:

As for snow, Levitt grew up in Colorado. Sedona is just where he found a job.

But does he know how to fill potholes, plow snow, and cut the grass and weeds? If not, then he won't make it here.

So what method of checking did council members do on they're trip? Surely they were trained in background investigations? No? Then what did they do out there besides "look around". Thanks for wasting my money. I do wish the city manager good luck (he had nothing to do with this joke of a trip).
