10 apply for 2 seats on school board
JANESVILLE The Janesville School Board has a field of 10 to choose from as it seeks to replace two members who resigned recently.
Two more people applied shortly before Wednesday’s deadline. They are Gregory Ardrey of 25 Sauk Court and Julie Gibes of 2615 E. Utah Trail.
Ardrey, 41, is a senior manager for Alliant Energy. He served on the Janesville Multicultural Teacher Opportunities Scholarship Fund Board, an effort that school board member Tim Cullen initiated.
Cullen serves on the school board committee that will review the applications and make recommendations to the board.
Ardrey said Cullen told him and other members of the multicultural teacher fund board about the school board openings, but Cullen did not encourage him to apply.
Ardrey said he has been active in PTAs and has coached youth teams his children played on. He said he has served on the Stateline United Way campaign and is treasurer for Randolph Park Church of the Nazarene.
Gibes is volunteer coordinator at Rotary Gardens and is a garden nutrition educator for the UW Extension. She is also horticulture educator in the county’s community garden program. Gibes could not be reached for comment this morning.
Gibes got 4,412 votes when she ran unsuccessfully for school board in 2003. She has served as president of the Jackson School PTA.
Others who have applied were described in previous articles. They are Jason Dowd, Karl Dommershausen, Jim Farrell, David Habeck, Munir “Mike” Hanna, Tom Lemmer, Peter D. Severson and Dale Thompson.
A school board committee will narrow the field, and the full board will vote to fill the two vacant seats. Appointees will serve until April 2009.
Five seats on the nine-member board will be up for grabs in April. The top three vote-getters will serve three-year terms. The fourth- and fifth-highest vote-getters will serve out the remaining year of the terms of the two board members who resigned.

I agree...Tom Lemmer, Peter Severson, and Jason Dowd. These three men are wholesome and honest men. I feel they truly have the forthright to serve this community and school district needs. Not that the others aren't honest, etc. I just do not know who you are.

my vote is for Mr. Lemmer. he may seem like a simple man, but I believe that he will have integrity in this position and a common mans view on issues, and that's what we need. a hard working man honest man in that position. Not a group of up class that think they know what the school district needs.
