On Job center specialist won't give up on his Janesville family

Posted on September 10 at 12:08 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

The job center and the annex helps those, that help themselves - no more , no less.
It is not the job of these case workers to solve your problems or hand you a job on a silver platter. It is their jobs to help people with whatever resources they have available. This as a well written article, I never understand why people take a positive article and only find the negative.

On Grant money will help retrain displaced workers

Posted on July 2 at 6:40 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

If you are laid off from work through no fault of your own you are eligible for training money at the job center - it does not matter what company or industry you have been laid off from. The amounts of money you are eligible for may be different depending on what pot of money you are eligible for. Call the folks at the job center, dislocated worker program and ask.

That was 2001...things change..people that really want help can get help now. The job center has a lot of services, some better then others, depends on what you need and what your eligible for.

Maybe you could get a better job than stuffing envelopes if you took advantage of some of the programs available to enhance your education, instead of wasting time critiquing staff that has a real job...

On Lear layoff affects 100 workers

Depending on your line of work will depend on how much further education you need. Not all additional training requires 2 or more years of school - short term training certificates are out there in jobs that are more stable and pay well( welding, cnc programming, heavy equiptment operator, etc. and yes trucking) as far as paying for training - there is a program with job service at the job center that may be able to pay for part or all of your training. I encourage anyone who is layed off to call or stop by there and get more information. Not everyone can afford to go to school and not work or work part time, but its worth checking into.

On Is anonymity the way to go?

I would not post if I had to use my real name. I follow guide lines set forth by the gazette as well as the values my parents taught me before posting. That being said, I have a high profile position and would not want my opinions to be in any way looked at as the opinions of my organization. Some readers would not be able to distinguish between the two.

On National pact delays contract for local union

The Fair labor standards act did for the american worker what unions started out doing. Unions are no longer needed. I believe in getting paid for what you know and how long you have been doing it. I agree that we need to start attracting more business, the eventual loss of GM may be not to far away - can Rock County survive that? I think we can if we start preparing now..
