"You're aware that the stock market improves more under Democratic Presidents than under Republican Presidents, right? You seem such an expert."
But a rising stock market is evil. I know because in the summer of 2008 when the Dow was over 14,000 and unemployment topped 5% Democratic leaders held press conferences to tell us that the rich were getting richer while way too many Americans were out of work.

So either Shocky is lying ("my wife is a supervisor") or his wife really is a supervisor and has no understanding of how the program works. Pretty scary either way

Janesvillean, The 12% number is for state and local taxes only. add in 28% (before the increases go in next year) and the tax burden becomes 40%. Add in Social Security tax and you are at 45%. Now, add in sales tax but you can't simply use the tax rate because you are now spending dollars that you have already been taxed on and the number jumps to near 55%. Allow for some deductions on the federal for state and local taxes and the tax rate is half of what many people make.

I'm curious as to just how many people in Wisconsin make $1M or more each year. To raise the $145M that is mentioned, 14,500 people would have to be taxed 1% on their 1M earnings. true, some people make more than that but do we really believe that there are somewhere between 10,000 and 14,500 in this state earning $1,000,000 annualy (not millionaires, not net worth of a million but making $1M or more in a year)?
Give this program six months and when it falls far short of what is being spent then suddenly it won't be about taxing those making $1M it will be about taxing the rich or the "winners in lifes lottery" with a new arbitrary number set by some idiot grazing at the public trough.

Right you are beenthere, there are certainly no doctors, engineers or professors from third world countries in America competing for jobs right now.
Actually, many are among the highest paid in their profesions in this country because they bring value to their jobs that others cannot or will not. Everyone is replacable, the question is how easy is it to find that replacement and is that replacement capable of doing the job as well or better and at what rate they are willing to do it for.

I guess I didn't explain myself very well. I want to know what dollar figure (ie.$10,12,..25) a factory worker should make in the U.S.
There is no "right" amount. They should make whatever there value is to the company (which seems to be where the whole union wage scale got messed up in the first place.) If a Union worker in Fon du Lac is worth $50/hour then he should receive it. That would assume however that no one in Oklahoma could do the same job at the same quality level at $25/hour.
How much should someone make for cutting your grass? If I am paying someon $30 each time they do it and someone comes along and offers to do it for $25 should I have the right to make the decision to switch if I am comfortable that I will get the same work done for $5 less or should I be forced to pay anyone who cuts my grass the same $30? Likewise, if I decide to keep the guy who charges $30 because I believe he is worth it and he comes to me next year demanding $35 simply because he has been "on the job" an extra year should I be forced to pay him even if his work brings no more value to me this year than it did last or should I be able to explore my options once again?

Gotta love some of the good folks in Janesville. If Favre had been black they would have viewed him as a drug addict but because he was a good old redneck he "overcame" his issues.

What? Hospital Administrators, United Way Administrators, Presidents of Private Colleges and Directors museums and charitable trusts don't receive paychecks?

"There is scientific consensus on global warming"
Yes, there is a consensus that we have had a number of warmest years on record in the past decade. The two points that there are certainly not a consensus on are: 1. The role that man played in this 2. That the warming is ongoing (which is part of the reason that those with an agenda have now changed the terms of the debate to "Climate Change")

Term limits are not needed. A better educated public that votes out individuals who do not do an adequate job of representing them. Term limits allow the public to abdicate their responsability to actually pay attention and become an active participant in their government. Why does anyone believe that the same people who continue to reelect those who are making the right choices would somehow choose more wisely if the incumbant was not running.
