On Ken Macha hired to manage Milwaukee Brewers

doc0430,
I don't think it matters what Oakland's record was last year because Macha wasn't managing them; He was fired in 2006.

On United Way programs to get less money in '09

Posted on October 9 at 2:05 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I don't give to United Way because it's an umbrella organization; they end up giving the money to multiple charities. I think it's better to give to charities directly. That way you know where your money is going.
.
Please be aware that United Way gives to Planned Parenthood. If you want to know that your money is not supporting abortion, then don't give to United Way.

At least Howard Dean isn't charging thousands of dollars for a speech about poverty a la John Edwards.

On Burglaries can baffle police

lakennedy said "I'll bet this little boy wished his dad hadn't had a gun in the house."
.
First of all, it's very tragic what happened.
Second, the boys dad was a sheriff's deputy. I'd question a deputy who didn't have a gun in the house.
Third, the article clearly stated "It's not yet clear how the gun got into the child's hands." So you don't even have all the facts surrounding this case. What are the circumstances that caused the deputy to leave his gun unattended?

In the state of WI, if someone breaks into your home and steals stuff you can't shoot them. You can only shoot them if they propose an imminent threat to you or your family. Wisconsin needs the Castle Doctrine as well as a conceal carry law.

On Don't fret if you hit a deer

Posted on September 29 at 3:23 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

I put deer alerts on my car because of friend's recommendation. I haven't hit a deer yet, but I don't know if that is because of the deer alerts or not. They are inexpensive so I figured I might as well try them out. I picked them up at Farm & Fleet.
.
Anybody else use deer alerts?

Skyward is a program that teachers use for grading and attendance. Parents can use it to check their kid's grades and attendance.

"Each child is counted as 0.6 of a student in 4-year-old kindergarten"
.
Sounds like the Three Fifths Compromise all over again.
