Once lung cancer is found, it's usually too late. There isn't much that can be done. As the article says, lung cancer is usually found too late for lenghty expensive treatment. I'm only talking about cancer, not all the assiociated extensive/expensive problems smoking causes.

The sad truth is that smoking and lung cancer reduce the cost of health care. When death comes earlier in life and within months, the health care burden is smaller. I know - I lost my brother at 59 years old to smoking.

The road fund was raided and the money went to the teachers. Take the middle man out -- tax the students.
Seems teachers can vote and roads can not.

When GM gets done alienating itself, they will lose many customers. Myself included. After 18 GM cars and trucks, my next car is an Accord. Both my children traded the new GM cars I bought them after college in favor of a Honda and Toyota. My opinion is that GM will not recover no matter how much help they get.

Should we shut down HomeDepot and Menards ?
Maybe when someone buys something they should fill out a questionnaire. Where are you using the 2x4's ?
Get real. We must be short on problems.

I've called there customer service twice in the last 2 months -- average hold time was about 1-1/2 hours. Be prepared to wait if you have a problem.
On Milwaukee paper endorses Obama

This is part of Obama's plan:
A plan by Teresa Ghilarducci, professor of economic-policy analysis at the New School for Social Research in New York, contains elements that are being considered. She testified last week before Miller’s Education and Labor Committee on her proposal. …
Under Ghilarducci’s plan, all workers would receive a $600 annual inflation-adjusted subsidy from the U.S. government but would be required to invest 5 percent of their pay into a guaranteed retirement account administered by the Social Security Administration. The money in turn would be invested in special government bonds that would pay 3 percent a year, adjusted for inflation.
The current system of providing tax breaks on 401(k) contributions and earnings would be eliminated.
ALSO -- when you die, the government takes 1/2 of what you have left.

On Pickens calls off massive wind farm in Texas

I researched an built a 12' turbine near Rockford in 1984 and received a tax credit for the cost. The government ended the program in 1985 I think. It created 7000 watts in a strong wind - but the wind isn't reliable. Today a small residential system is about $15k and would need a 20+ year payback assuming no breakdowns. As much as I would like to see more wind power, I doubt it will materialize. The answer I believe is nuclear. Clean and creates a lot of jobs. If we have electric cars and more demand, wind turbines aren't going to make a dent in the need.
