VERY interesting to read the Gazette's TEN TOP STORIES of 2012 today! I noted that #6 related to the "MESS" in our Milton School District. Intro statement, "Was it a case of the board jumping the gun on a few nebulous complaints?" BOTTOM-LINE, whatever REALLY happened, it is costing us - TAXPAYERS of the School District of Milton - FULL PAY & BENEFITS for Garrow for leave from Oct. 12, 2012 through the remainder of the WHOLE SCHOOL YEAR to the end of JUNE 2013 PLUS $35,000 severance pay-off. SCANDAL! New Year 2013 will NOT be the end of that "mess" - the BOARD has NOT yet released all the documents sought by our MILTON COURIER and THE JANESVILLE GAZETTE under WI public document law. Will the Gazette pursue the legal suit for disclosure? I HOPE SO! What do YOU hope? Here we go... John W. Eyster

MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS yesterday on the "FISCAL CLIFF"! Happy to hear President Obama's statement to WE THE PEOPLE of the US with his ASSIGNMENT to CONGRESS to take a vote. Yes, JUST PLAIN TAKE A REAL UP or DOWN VOTE ON HIS PLAN if Congress is not able to put together a plan of its own and pass it. KEEP THE FAITH, BARACK OBAMA! FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!
And, VERY happy to read the report that WARREN BUFFET asserted, "We'll get it solved" in an interview with BBC Radio 4 yesterday morning (Friday). Source URL: http://gazettextra.com/weblogs/we-people....
I have AUDACITY of HOPE that our CONGRESS will VOTE for the BEST INTEREST of WE THE PEOPLE of the US. Do YOU? Here we go... John W. Eyster

ALERT - I encourage readers to take read Steve Knox's blog today, "So you want to be a community blogger?" Excellent commentary on "community blog" experience!
I posted a comment of appreciation with comments re. "community blog" experience added.
I regularly read not only the other "community blogs," but other blogs on gazettextra.com.
Yes, Steve is correct - Greg Peck is a PAID EDITORIAL WRITER & BLOGGER, so the frequently of his postings is expected. On the other hand, Steve and I along with our "community blogger" colleagues are PURE VOLUNTEERS!
THANKS for your continuing meaningful blogging, Steve!

On So you want to be a community blogger?
Posted on December 28 at 9:45 a.m. ( Suggest removal )
I agree 100% with Steve! Thanks for YOUR thoughtful advice re. COMMUNITY BLOG!
I would assert that a blog is like an editorial or other opinion piece. Again and again readers attack me for OPINION. They KNOW I am an educator. I have tried to assert from time-to-time the difference between classroom educational relations/communications as a POLITICAL SCIENTIST as contrasted with my "community blog" on political issues. In the classroom, I work to maintain openness without PARTISAN politics. We study public policy issues. We study processes of government. We study personages of government, including politicians, bureaucrats, civil servants, et al.
On the other hand, I do understand that my Community Blog is meant to discuss public policy issues with MY articulation of my stance.
As Steve attests, we - COMMUNITY BLOGGERS - are OURSELVES! Fully identified. We do NOT work for the Gazette. Our blogging is totally VOLUNTARY. We have FULL EDITORIAL FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE.
Let me underscore - EDITORIAL FREEDOME & INDEPENDENCE. From time-to-time a reader comments that the Gazette should NOT allow the blogger to articulate the stance. DO NOT BLAME the Gazette or Bliss Communications. BLAME ME, JOHN W. EYSTER! The buck stops here. I accept full responsibility for the stances I take as an informed, involved and dedicated native-born citizen. Do YOU?
I oppose the ANONYMOUS set-up for comments to blogs and other Gazette items. I hope that my understanding that ANONYMOUS is going away with the new website of 2013 is accurate. IF you are NOT willing to identify yourself with what you say, do NOT say it! I have maintained a career-long policy that I do NOT read or keep ANONYMOUS communications. That's the way I treat comments to my WE THE PEOPLE blog too. Yes, that is very frustrating to some of my readers. So it goes...
Keep up the GOOD work, Steve! BLOG ON... here we go... John W. Eyster
On Real NEGOTIATIONS? FINALLY?!

FINALLY, we do have a report that SPEAKER BOEHNER responded to PRESIDENT OBAMA's offer in the New York Times (URL: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/04/us/pol...). I am DISappointed again by the GAMES the GOP is playing. WHY are they NOT identifying the specifics? That was the SAME TRICK ROMNEY tried to play. I HOPE PRESIDENT OBAMA does NOT fall for the TRICK. He MUST demand that the GOP be transparent with their RECOMMENDED CUTS! What do YOU think? Here we go... John W. Eyster

I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY! THANK YOU, GREG, for this very valuable editorial! I do HOPE that our Milton Board of Education steps up to the plate SOOOOONER than later to INFORM us - WE THE PEOPLE of the School District of Milton - parents & grandparents, voters & taxpayers! WHY the long delay?! I disagree with President Rob Roy's interpretation of our WI State Law! I hope that this new week brings more transparency from our Milton School Board. Here we go... John W. VERY INTERSTING BLOG POST COMPLEMENTED BY MANY INTERSTING COMMENTS, GREG! I do wonder whether you and others who did buy tickets double-checked all the numbers. I read an article about the MILLIONS OF DOLLARS that are NOT claimed because buyers do NOT check numbers in terms of winning one of the smaller prizes. In fact, several $10,000. prizes have NOT been claimed. The article reported one GRAND PRIZE worth millions which was never claimed. So... if you still have your ticket(s) - double-check.
