The only way to test for rabies is to cut off the dog's head and test the brain tissue.
Routinely the dog is quarantined for 10 days at the owner's expense if it is not up to date on its vaccination. Even if a dog is up to date on its vaccination, it still must have 3 rabies checks by a veterinarian in the 10 day period following the bite.
On Man wants change in chicken ordinance

I am all for chickens in town!!! I have been hoping for Janesville to come around to this idea for quite some time. I grew up in the country and worked on various types of farms. Yes, chickens are smelly in large qunatities. 4 chickens would not smell up the whole neighborhood!
I don't understand why so many of you are so upset about it. If you have a neighbor who gets chickens and it becomes a problem, call the police. Lets not worry too much about it now, I'm sure there will not be that many folks who get them anyway.

Nikki-
Only one person suggested that it might have been done on purpose, and I'm pretty sure we all realize that isn't the case. Also, I don't see anyone badmouthing him or "throwing all of his accomplishments out the door". Yes, a mistake was made. That is why he had malpractice insurance. None of us commenters even know the whole story, and most were actually bashing the family for suing in this case. If a mistake was made and a patient was injured, they deserve compensation. Again, that is the point of malpractice insurance, everybody makes mistakes.

I don't think this has anything to do with the Gazette having it out for Mercy. Most likey just not enough information provided/poor reporting. Anyway, the article makes the family look bad, not Mercy, can't you tell by what people are posting????
The Gazettextra website does not bring them in much money, and why wouldn't they take some money from a Dean ad? The reason why the Gazette reports on Mercy hospital is because it is IN Janesville. The Dean hospital has not yet opened. You don't see reports on Mercy CLINICS, so don't even say that they don't report on Dean CLINIC. Gazette can't help that Mercy does not advertise on this website.

That is why doctors have malpractice insurance. The insurance will pay. The doctors and hospital already pay through the nose for the insurance. This article did not include enough information. We do not know why the parents sued- if it was because of negligence on the doctors part that their son was injured, then they deserve the settlement. These people were awarded this money after a 7 day trial, so to me that means that there must have been negligence.
There are a lot of maybes in this case that we do not know about. It is possible the doctor was not in the room when the mother began pushing or when the baby was born. Or that they used an improper method of pulling the baby out. We don't know. Let's not accuse this family of anything. Their son is injured for life, he deserves the money.
On Which intersection do you think is the most dangerous in Janesville?

The intersection by Woodman's/Toys R Us at Milton Ave is by far the WORST intersection I have ever seen in my entire life. I will go around this intersection however I can.
I completely agree with your statement eatlessmovemore!!! It is a 'pack' mentality, the are fearless since everyone else is doing it. I usually pull out (carefully)as soon as my light is green just to give those red light runners a scare!
On Talking trash: Janesville City Council considers changes
Posted on October 24 at 9:23 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
The new hours STINK. I work M-F 8-5, and most Saturdays 8-12. So we have to cater to the minority- contractors and seniors? What about us residents who work and just want to drop off some lawn clippings every once in awhile?
Our current trash collecter is SO picky and often leaves garbage on our curb, still haven't figured out why. Also, we have a family of 4 and have more than 1 bag of trash per week. If we had 4 bags, that's over $200/yr if we had to pay $1.50 for each additional bag. My 85 year old single neighbor has 3 bags of trash every week!
I agree, lets not mess with city services such as trash pickup. Janesville already stinks from the dump, let's not make it worse!
On Edgerton to consider 18.7% tax increase

We wanted to move to Edgerton 3 years ago, but decided on Janesville since Edgerton's taxes were much higher. I was pretty sad about not staying in a small town, but if this goes through, I will be happy we picked Janesville!
