I love seeing this news about Milwaukee. I moved to Milwaukee after college in 2002 and absolutely love it here.

On Janesville parks remain off-limits to dogs in summer

Posted on April 23 at 10:48 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Is this for real? You can't take your dog to the park on a sunny day? Wow. Come on Janesville!

I live by a few parks and beaches on Lake Michigan. During the summer, there are dogs everywhere and I've never seen a problem. The dogs are on leashes and the owners are responsible about bringing baggies along to pick up after them.

You're all too fixated on exaggerated images of dogs running loose, biting everyone and dumping everywhere. Get with the times.

On No flowers for gay wedding: Discrimination or religious freedom?

MB, while a business that is open to the general public can post a sign like that, they CANNOT refuse service for a reason that would constitute illegal discrimination.

Under the Human Rights Act, no one can be refused service by a public business because of their race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, a disability or their sexual orientation.

On No flowers for gay wedding: Discrimination or religious freedom?

Aw shoot, MB, I had my gay marriage proposal to you all planned out and everything.

This is no different than a florist denying service to someone who is black, disabled, etc. You can cite your relationship with the Bible all you want, but discrimination is discrimination.

Pudgy? The kid gives you an interview and you call him pudgy in print?

On When classmates die too soon

I graduated from Craig, and between 6th grade and 12th grade, my class unfortunately lost 5 students before we even graduated. Since then, we've lost 2 more. Very sad, considering we're only in our 30's now. Cherish every day you have and let people know you love them every chance you get.

On Restaurateur finds a different Janesville than he expected

The Joker says "This restaurant will be gone within 2 years. Remember, you heard it here first."

Translation: I'm a complete pessimist and a Debbie Downer, and it will bring me satisfaction when you all remember that I'm the one who knew it would fail.

On Boy lands monster catfish

Great story! Congrats to the fishermen.

This reminds me of one of my favorite movies, "Big Fish". If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. Great father/son story.

On More accountability coming to comments

Posted on April 2 at 12:14 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

This is wonderful news! I grew up in Janesville and moved away when I was 18. Whenever I check this site to stay current on issues back home, the comments are almost always negative, nasty and hateful.

Whenever I check newspaper/media sites from other places I've lived, the comments are never dominated this way.

Janesville has a bad reputation of being a city full of haters. Perhaps this change will put some of that fire out.

On Which flick will win top Oscar?

Posted on February 21 at 11:12 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I don't get the hype over Lincoln. Daniel Day-Lewis was great, but the film dragged and was also very cheesy at times. The African-American soldier reciting the Gettysburg Address while the rain fell and the music swelled? Meh.

Argo will win Best Picture, but I'd rather see it go to Silver Linings Playbook. Best film of the year, to me anyway.

I'm predicting Daniel Day-Lewis, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro and Anne Hathaway will win the acting Oscars, and Steven Spielberg will win Best Director. Enter your office pool now! : )
