On Home’s demolition splits Janesville Historic Commission

Posted on April 19 at 9:35 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Historic or not when these houses are so far gone and have been severly abused by TENANTS they need to go. History is one thing but ugly is another. People buy these big homes and split them into several apartments and rent them to just anybody or get them approved for section 8 housing. Once that is done the place is doomed to being abused and destroyed. Main street is a prime example of this. Yes these places need to be torn down. Get on the owners to keep the property, atleast on the outside maintained and cleaned up and they wouldn't look so bad. We have a beautiful city here and it should not be let get into a nasty mess because bleeding hearts want these delapated houses saved for history. They are beyond help so let them go.

On Pupils feel pinch of poverty

They need to educate the adults reponsible for these kids. A large percentage of these families are recieving foodstamps and rental assistance and utility assistance and a check. Well the way I see things these adults that get this assistance owes it to these kids to not spend any of that money on cigarettes, alcholol and getting thier nails done and eating in restuarants. Those kids deserve to eats regular meals 3 times a day, 7 days a week. If it takes the adults to skip a few meals so kids can have it so be it. Stay out of the nail salon and cut off the internet and satalite TV. Educate the adults how to buy groceries and getting priorities straight. These adults feel they are entitled because they don't work. THEY are not entitled to anything but the kids are. Get your head out of your --- .

On Janesville School Board finance committee to reopen discussion on school closure, athletics fees

Posted on March 27 at 10:07 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

AMEN cousineddy..I see those same people in the grocery store buying cartons of cigarettes and liquor and or beer. Nails done, been to get an new tattoo, hair done, leather NFL jackets, driving an SUV,and heading right for the restaurant after signing the kids up for free lunches. This may sound harsh but tell me why we need to have spanish speaking teachers or aids? The parents need to see to it that those kids get instruction in english and not paid for by the tax payer. Granted the kids need to eat 3 meals a day and while I don't have a problem feeding them, if the parents can afford cigaretts, nails and beer they can afford to feed thier own children. Most of those that sign up for the reduced or free meals aren't going to work each day so why can't they give up thier habits to feed thier own children. Most of them are getting food stamps and could pack lunches for the children but they would rather spend it on steak for a party they are having. I see it all the time, I check groceries in a store..

On ID theft puts everyone at risk

Some are using thier childrens SS# to get utilities turned on again after they have been shut off for nonpayment. They use them to get cell phone service after they are shut off for nonpayment and to rent apartments.By the time the child needs thier SS# for themselves they can't use it because mom/dad have already abused it. It has a bad history attached to it and they can't get things they may need like heat and lights..

On Residents fined $12,000 for underage drinking party

Posted on November 6 at 11:46 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Mr Denver, Have you ever felt the pain of being told your son or daughter will never be home again because somebody was drinking? It's like your heart explodes and you never recover. While I do agree that at the age of 18 if a person is in the active military he/she
should beable to have a drink after presenting a valid Militaty Id Card. How would you feel if it were your sibling killed by binge drinking or driving drunk. I can guarantee your attitude would change.

On More working families getting government food aid

Sorry we are buying the deli, bakery and energy drinks for them. How could I have forgotten that little detail. Do you know how much groceries you can buy for what it costs for 2 packs of cigarettes per day. Average about $130 a month. That really bites..I'm sure you see lots of these same people out eating in the restaurants quite often also. If I sound angry I am very angry.

On More working families getting government food aid

TJ.. we are working tax payers that are very tired of buying groceries for others so thay can use what cash they may have to eat out and buy cigarettes, soda, energy drinks and very expensive deli and bakery items. NO children should not go hungry but lots of the adults I see everyday and buying with foodstamps could afford to skip a few meals. I'm tired of the entire attitude of YOU OWE ME...the children get free or reduced meals at school so foodstamps should be reduced by that much per child per day. You must live in a very sheltered place that you don't see the things these people buy on OUR dollar. Something needs to be done.

On Food pantry use is on the rise, while donations are down

It's the ABUSE not the USE of the quest card and food pantry that everybody is sick of. You can't blame it on GM either.
