On Janesville firefighters, police to pay into pensions

Posted on December 10 at 6:28 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

This is the right thing to do! Why should some employees pay into their pensions and others not? Way to step up and do the right thing! This saves the city money that is why this is news!

On Janesville chief sees the potential for a future without fires

Posted on December 3 at 6:36 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Chief Jensen is right! It is, or should be, all about prevention! These are the messages from the National Fire Administration for several decades yet many fire professionals do not heed it.
It probably won't make the union thugs too happy to hear it but Janesville could reduce its staff, or look at alternative models such as bringing on paid-on-call staff, if they really embraced preventing fires with a mandatory sprinkler ordinance. The city could entice new business by promoting we're a fire safety town. The city could also provide a tax rebate for those who retrofit their homes with sprinklers. Chief thanks for being so bold to suggest this and for thinking outside of the box! Your executive fire officer education is showing!

On The kids in my neighborhood

Posted on May 6 at 6:26 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

I hear some people trash Janesville but it is largely unfounded. Among our peer cities we are the lowest in property taxes, we have a dedicated city staff in all areas, we do more with less than any city around, and, it is still a great place to live. Low crime rates, great pride in taking care of things, and we're growing. I am a lifer because of the ties that bind, the memories, and the familiar paths.

On Do you feel safe in Janesville?

Posted on March 6 at 4 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Janesville has always been a clean and safe place to live and raise kids. The JPD has alot to do with that and they have brought about some unique programs. They walk the beat in troubled neighborhoods, they post the names and locations of high risk people (child molesters and drunk drivers), and they deal with problem bars proactively. Bravo Chief Moore and the JFD! I feel safe here and am proud to say I live in Janesville! I could not agree more that companies do want to operate in safe cities!

Deputy Boeche saved that man's life! Bravo!! Also, kudos to the support responders who arrived and got the man out of the water and into medical care. We owe these people more than their modest wages for doing these things that most people wouldn't and couldn't do. That is why their pensions are important-they earn it!

The only purpose with this membership poll is a negative one. Way to trash your own comrades Rock County Bar Association! Lindau, you should be ashamed of leading such an effort!

On What are Janesville’s best attributes?

Posted on December 3 at 6 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

We also have progressive police and fire departments who seem to do alot with their resources, especially compared to peer cities. We have elected officials who do the tough jobs for no pay or compensation. Tired of the Janesville bashing. Stay positive and optimistic! It will absolutely change your life!!

On Is it right to spend tax dollars on Tallman House?

Posted on November 26 at 6:41 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

The City of Janesville funds this facility because it is owned by the city. It was donated to the city in the 1950's by the Tallman family because of its historical significance and its unique construction. It would cost over $3 million to replace or duplicate and it should be regarded as a city gem and drawing card for people to visit our city. We cannot be so narrow minded and allow this property to fall apart. The Rock County Histroical Society merely runs the property and does the general maintenance. Without them, and their many volunteers, the city would need to supply the staff. Lastly, we have a responsibility to maintain our old buildings: Grahm Shankland once stated "A city without old buildings is like a man without a memory". We need to embrace this grand old structure!
