This guy showed up at our church two Sundays ago! So inform your congregations/pastor about this guy! thankfully he had an eye on him the whole time because he just looks suspicious. Now there is a lot more 'security' and awareness at our church! Finally!

There needs to be a BAN on producing cigarettes/cigars in the U.S. to go with a ban on smoking. A fact that it's NOT good for your health, combined with affecting other people's health makes smoking a big NO. Certainly, Children don't need to deal with messed up health because a parent smokes. Enough people DO care about their health to support a ban. Smokers, you'd think, would wise up and agree with a ban since their health is important and it'd save them money and healthcare costs. I'm guessing people will fight the ban if they smoke because they have completely lost the awareness of how they negatively affect others and themselves. And they don't care enough about themselves (they smoke) so they won't care about others.

That's weird the Neighbor would pull out even if the boy stopped. Why would they not wait (especially for really young kids)for the child to completely clear their drive/property area? MORE IMPORTANTLY, why wasn't the parent with the children? That's some neglect. You can't just sit on your butt and watch your toddler/preK children ride off past your property. I'm guessing the parent won't press charges because they were neglectful. Hope this is an eye opener!

Hi all. My family lives right on the IL-MO border where the quake happened. I got a bunch of text messages/calls telling me about it. My sister felt the aftershock at work too, 11 stories up, with her coworkers. My brother was fishing and said the lake started bubbling up with the quake. I'm thinking "EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS" people!
On Hedberg Library Director hopes security upgrades will prevent thefts

It is ridiculous that some people go to a FREE library, where they have the benefit of reading and viewing new material Free for a couple weeks, and decide they STILL want to steal. I wonder if the radio frequency id will be a better cost than the 'safers'. With community awareness on this topic, what will librarians do if there is reported suspicious behavior? I don't recall seeing a security guard there to deal with issues like this or inappropriate behavior.
On Foggy pileups kill 2, involve more than 100 vehicles near Madison

It's great that all the comments have been in agreement with slowing down in fog and paying attention to driving/speed/etc. I'm with good probability that the people who should be reading these comments and learning to drive better are the ones who may not even care to read a newspaper or pay attention to events around them! Honestly, with drivers today it'd be beneficial to all of us to have the state mandate drivers' education tests every 8 years with license renewals. That's opening up other discussion...having to pay an extra dollar for safety versus having huge tolls/taxes to pay for road repair (because of unsafe drivers) would be more intelligent I think. But I'm not versed in everything on the Department of Transportation either!

It's a shame human error happened during an emergency. I'm glad Captain Maritz took responsibility and is working to improve emergency preparedness. What a wake up call for cities! Being proactive from henceforth is an important step! Having city safety committees, police/fire departments, and city/county officials review plans and procedures, retrain dispatchers, etc will definitely help prevent future issues. I hope cities set a policy to review all protocols at 1-2 year intervals from now on!
On Council to consider 62 miles of sidewalk
Posted on January 9 at 8:38 p.m. ( Suggest removal )
I think sidewalks are beneficial to families, children, individuals, and those with disabilities. It's ridiculous and hazardous when people choose to walk or ride in the streets, instead of using the available sidewalks. That's a hazard to drivers and other pedestrians. Parents, grandparents and individuals in the community need to start or continue to model good behavior, by using sidewalks, teaching their children to do so, and importantly- DRIVE safely to show respect for themselves and pedestrians. To offset the cost of sidewalks maybe our community members should consider a fine for pedestrians who don't use bike lanes/sidewalks. In fairness, more people need to be aware of their driving. The law should be revised to raise the cost of speeding or reckless driving tickets.

On Wind power generating controversy

This was a balanced article! The 'disruption' energy companies 'cause' is not the only problem to look at. We as energy consumers cause companies to look for new plans because we suck up so much energy and just phantom load electricity. There needs to be more awareness of how we are consuming current energy, that would help the amount of windmills that would need to be built,or other energy producers.
