On Healthier foods are now part of WIC program

If you click on the picture and read the caption it says "Aaron and Allison Williams shop for W.I.C. approved items at Daniel's Sentry with their five-month-old Stella, in the cart, and two-year-old Colby, right"

So yes the Gazette made a typo...22-month old not 22 year old.

On Annual event raises awareness about domestic violence

Needhelp: If you need help getting out of a domestic violence situation with your partner, you can call the domestic violence shelter in Beloit. They help both men and women. Although Men cannot stay in the shelter, they do provide an alternative place for men to stay. Most DV shelters provide services to men and I thought the YWCA did this too, but looking at their website I do not see that. The Beloit DV number is 364-1083.

If you are looking for her to get treatment, she has to decide that on her own like others have said. You cannot force her into treatment. You, like any woman who is a victim, have to leave the situation and get help/services for yourself. Unfortunately, our society believes that the victim needs to leave instead of holding the abuser accountable and making him/her leave.

On Immigrant groups seek driver's card, tuition break

usaret: Wouldn't it be nice if they were able to obtain legal status? Unfortunately, it isn't as easy as signing your name at Ellis Island. I won't go into the details of becoming a LPR...just remember it is not as easy as everyone thinks.

realitybites: Please show me how they do not pay their fair share of taxes?

Sales tax: No way of getting out of paying this.
Property Tax: again no way of getting out of paying this.
Income tax: They pay into this and cannot claim it...so actually giving our state MORE money than LPRs and Citizens. You can argue that some are paid cash. In reality, yes some are paid cash, most get pay checks with taxes taken out. I have worked with immigrants across the state, so I know this information first hand.

I am going to write this comment hoping that I am not attacked for my point of view. I agree with this proposal for the state budget. Undocumented immigrants need to have driver's licenses in our state. Think of all the benefits for us as drivers sharing the road with the undocumented population: they can get car insurance, will have to take a test to drive here, and police will know who they are pulling over.

As for in-state tuition, children do not have a choice of coming to the United States with or without proper documentation. So why should we keep punishing these children for something their parents did? I understand most people think that now that they are 18, they can just go back to their "home" country. Well what if it was you. Say you were raised in the US since age 5, and now at age 18, you find out you cannot go to college because you do not have proper documentation and have to pay out-of-state tuition even though you have resided in WI for over 2/3 of your life. These children cannot go back to their “home” country because it is not their home. Most undocumented children have resided in the US for over half their lives and now we want to tell them they have no future here and send them to a country that they do not know. Imagine being sent to Mexico tomorrow and saying this is now your home. I speak Spanish and I would be horrified.

Way to go WI! Glad to see we are joining other states in providing children an opportunity to go to college. (FYI these children will still not be able to receive scholarships or grants)

On Milton teen in court on sex charge

Myob: "this girl didn't care that she ruined his life."

And you do not think he ruined hers? You can sit here and blame the victim all you want, but in reality he is the one to blame if the accusations are true. Even if it was mutual, she is a minor and he is 18, which means by law she cannot give consent.

I would like to start by saying I am impressed with the comments on this page as there is little victim blaming. Thank you Gazette for keeping this forum open and for writing a story about a sexual assault case in Rock County.

I tend to agree with some of the comments stated by Miltongirl. Can you imagine if the victim goes to Milton school with him? Parents at Milton should use this story as a gateway to discuss sexual assault and safety with their children; especially since in 90% of sexual assault cases the victim knows the perpetrator.

I understand the media must give relevant background information regarding news stories, but what are they trying to say? Yes, he is innocent until proven guilty, but now everyone who has read this story formed an opinion about him based on this “background” information. Some will think this is another jock thinking he can get away with anything, while others will think no star football player could ever do this. If this goes to trial, I hope there is a fair and unbiased jury, but I can almost guarantee that he will plea bargain just like many other cases in Rock County. As for the family of the victim, I hope you have support to get through this, and I hope you all are receiving counseling to get through this traumatic experience.

On Delavan Pick 'n Save closing doors on Nov. 2

I am an old PNS worker, who worked there for many years. Mark is a great man and actually had to make the change due to Roundys. As you notice there are now NO independent PNS stores. Mark owned the last 2 and for the past years, roundys had made their grocery life horrible. Roundys wants to become another corporate company and they got their wish. Please support the Stinebrinks in their move. They are a wonderful family who cares about their workers and supports our community. Mark always pushed me to do better things and actually cared about how I was doing in school.

Walmart continues to try to push out local businesses. Just look at the top 10 richest people in our country and you will find the Waltons on the top of the list. Then go see how much of that they actually donate. I believe it is less that 1%, but I cannot remember the actual fact.

Piggly Wiggly actually has comparable prices. The Delavan PNS would compare the prices of the Pig and actually have to LOWER their prices to meet the prices of the Pig, and I do know this because I worked at the PNS store. Again, I wish the Stinebrink family the best.
