Doesn't surprise me one bit when the owners feel that paying more than minimum wage is a crying shame. When they lose money on this venture we'll see who's the one crying...

If the mother duck was nearby, why were the duckings given to a rehabber?

On Rock County Humane Society sees fewer animals in 2011

Posted on April 26 at 7:03 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

GrandPrixGirl,, you obviously have NO clue what your talking about. They are an adoption guarantee site which means they do not euthanize unless feral, aggressive, or extremely sick. Me and my partner have volunteered there for years, and I know for a fact they dont "clean house of perfectly healthy cats" as you put it. No healthy animal is put down at all, and yes they HAVE had a LOT of adoptions just as they told you. You may not see the overcrowding now, but since birthing season is here, they WILL be overfull in the next month.
.
.To everyone else with the negative comments, you words do nothing but hurt the animals there. Them being a private business,,, let me see if I can give you some perspective. Gas stations, garbage companies, and grocery stores are also businesses, but would you demand they give free stuff just because they have them available and you need their services? Nope, never, won't happen!!
.
Unfortunately in the case here it is dealing with living breathing animals that have no choice when lost or abandoned. (which by the way, if the cities need to recoop costs, how about ticketing the people causing the problems?!) The cities and townships that dont want to work with the shelter should be urged or pressured to provied their OWN services if they dont want to work with the shelter, I think its required they do that by state law, but i'm not 100% sure.

I bet Dr. Peterson loved being called a "Veneration." @bleeding_heart, totally agree with you.

On How can county get handle on stray animals?

Posted on December 15 at 7:22 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Keep in mind that society created the problem. Unfortunately Humane Societies and rescues are left to try and clean up the mess. It's not their fault, yet so many are quick to point fingers and blame them when things don't happen the way people don't like.
How about helping offset those city fees, and donating to the local RCHS? They are non-profit after all.

On Rock County vet aims to fix area animal problem

Wow spook, kill 'em all? How humane is that? Hope your pet never gets out accidentally, then maybe you'd think otherwise. I can already hear many inner thoughts about how "A responsible pet owner wouldn't let their pet run loose" Well guess what, it happens to 'responsible pet owners' like me. My fence was broke by the neighbors doing some yard work, and my dog got out while I was at work. Not my fault- yet when she ended up at the shelter, I still had to pay for someone elses mistake. Know what? I didn't care, she was safe and being cared for!

It's people who allow their pets to run loose constantly, and not spaying/neutering and having litter after litter that tick me off. THAT is where the problem is occurring.

Too many people are blaming the Humane Society for a problem that society created. They are NOT the problem, they are just left to clean up the mess.

$2000 for a cat and kittens? Only if each mom gave birth to 14 kittens each. Talk about inflating your numbers for dramatic effect! Didn't anyone think of using a calculator to double check?

@Sigma40- A cat can give birth up to 3 times a year, plus her kittens can breed at an early age also. If you add those up- each breeding pair can add up to thousands in just a few years (even with death by disease, cars, and predators), not to mention the possibility of Rabies being spread vary rapidly among them. What happens when someone tried to pet one of these stray 'neighborhood' cats? I don't know about you, but I certainly don't want those thousands of cats running loose in MY neighborhood!

On Milton will issue tickets for dogs that bite

Posted on October 5 at 7:50 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

This is an almost useless rule. Most dog bites are from ones that are in their own yard or in their own home. Very seldom does a loose dog bite someone unless cornered or provoked, and at that point can you really blame it?

On Rock County officials meet to talk animal control contingencies

twinkiepied, NO animals are put down due to space at the shelter. If you don't believe me, ask them! Not to mention they fees are very low compared to the care the dogs have before you adopt. I don't think that $120 was bad for my dog already spayed, chip, shots, and the other stuff already done. You can't get the same service at any vet for that price.
