I volunteered for 2 1/2 hours this afternoon. The guys were pretty friendly. some good hard work. Even saw councilman Liebert packing sandbags on pallets. Worth it if it helps someone save their house.

I have met Jay on several occasions, I think he would make a pretty good city manager.

Beldar - a small claims judgment from 8 years ago doesn't mean irresponsible with money now. In fact, it may have made him better at managing it, having learned a lesson. As for Yuri, if he cared so much, he should have announced and run like all the others. Then he would have taken part in the forums and gotten interviewed by the gazette. The rock county elections site says there were 821 write in votes. I suspect the gazette hasn't posted his results because write ins have to be individually inspected. I don't think the clerks office has done that yet. I think the people of Janesville were pretty clear last night, as the 5th highest vote getter was 469 votes from 4th. not exactly a few votes. Good Luck to the new Councilmembers and Go DuWayne!

Why the random sentence about his salary? I realize some people might want to know, but it seems irrelevant to the article.

Just a thought, but maybe we can impose stiffer penalties to those who do decide to drink in public parks but fail to act responsibly. If a JPD officer is called to a party and finds a reasonable public nuisance, That person(and maybe the person who holds the permit) gets a ticket with a large fine on it. Maybe $250 per offense. This would allow people the option, but also the understanding that the are responsible for their behavior. The $250 ticket would be a deterrent and a way to pay for any additional police expenses for responding to such calls.
This is just an idea. CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is welcome.

Seems to me that the Council just can't win. Seen a bunch of people in gazette comments complain about how the Councilmembers don't listen to the citizens of Janesville and do whatever they want, but when they want to ask for the public's input, the public berates them for not doing their job.

wislady - wleong is entitled to his own opinion and legally allowed to express them. He didn't claim to be speaking on behalf of the Milton School Board or anyone else for that matter. Some of the words he chose were inflammatory and probably should warrant a removal of that post, though.
