On Enrollment drop concerns Janesville officials

I know people are also homeschooling or sending their children to private schools because they are unhappy with the public schools. One issue that I have heard over and over is bullying in the public schools. We have never had a problem with elementary schools, but once our children have reached middle school, the real problems begin. I've also spent a day in one of the high schools and was appalled at the lack of control and respect the teachers have. Maybe the district should take a look at why these numbers have dropped and primarily which schools are losing students.

Why is it that we are willing to take away services that people really need? These are real people who are crying out for help. When did our society quit caring about the well being of others? Unfortunately, this is becoming a trend. The governor of Conneticut just cut ALL the funding for the Epilepsy Foundation of Conneticut. She said "In these times we must ALL cut back' and her contribution is that she is not traveling out of state at STATE expense. She has made efforts to ensure that agencies with the greatest public safety or human services roles have borne the smallest cuts.
Who decides what human service roles are the most important? Aren't they all important to the people needing them?

Our prayers and thoughts are with you Suzanne, Jessica and Andrew. Although we only knew Hammy for the last couple of years, we felt like we knew him for a long time. Everyone at the Epilepsy Foundation also sends their condolences. There are times when I believe that God puts angels in our lives and Hammy certainly was an angel to us. God has called his angel home.

On Janesville School District expels six

pudssweetie, I am now in my second round of raising a child like your step-child. The first was my own daughter and the second my step-daughter. I have been battling with the schools for years and we keep hearing that they have consequences for a students actions based on the actions. One major problem is the lack of respect these kids have for their teachers. I know because I spent a day following my daughter around in high school and what was tolerated by the teachers was appalling. We have also encountered a bully situation where this bully had gone to a pre-explusion hearing last year only to be able to enroll in the other high school. This year the bully was allowed back at the first high school. There should be a zero tolerance for the students actions. I also know that drugs are a bigger problem than most people really know. These kids are actually dealing drugs and not just using. There are too many parents who bail out their kids when they get in trouble instead of making the child responsible for their actions. These kids are going to be our caretakers in the future and with the "I Don't Care" attitude, I think we are looking at a bleak future.
