On Janesville in storage war over old Menards building

Nodonuts, sorry to disagree with a fellow business owner, but that's an invitation to chaos. I'm not a proponent of excess regulation, but a quality community needs good, logical planning and zoning to protect everyone's investments, not just that of one particular property owner.

The goal of orderly city planning should always be for highest and best use of the property, and for developments that fit well together and complement each other. For a variety of reasons including land and construction costs, this type of business does not usually end up in a highly visible location right along the interstate and a major highway, mixed in with retail, residential and upscale office development. Menards huge, vacant property has had a negative impact on the adjoining area for 5 years and it would be great to see it redeveloped. But the proposed use isn't a desirable solution from the standpoint of orderly city planning and it doesn't fit the "neighborhood." If the conditional use permit is granted, getting a more suitable development could be even more difficult.

This can obviously be a tough and thankless job. A big thank you to DuWayne Severson for his generous willingness to step up for another term. His pragmatic nature and business background provide a strong foundation for his work on the council.
On VP Debate: Biden, Ryan at each other on everything

Paul Ryan gave a respectful and intelligent debate performance despite Biden's many interruptions and attempts to talk right over him during his times to speak. Biden's smirking, disrespectful, smug and arrogant demeanor was a slap in the face of the American public at a time when more statesmanlike behavior would be appropriate. His grandstanding was a big distraction. I fail to understand why anyone would think it's okay for the vice-president of the United States to act like this during an important public event on national TV.

How did they happen to miss the southern gateway into Janesville on Highway 51/Center Ave.? There are some excellent targets for improvement out there.

Janesvillean, obviously you picked out the same comment. I strongly disagree with your definition, and your attitude.

Most of these comments are proof that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I am very familiar with this big parcel and its access challenged potential. I was at the public hearing last night, where it was easy for attendees to see that this is a complex issue with a lot of history. The Planning Commission did the hard thing in rendering their decision. It will eventually prove to be a prudent one.
