displacedworker. you are right but aren't the Toyota and Honda plants non-union? I don't doubt the quality coming from our plant but I bet they aren't paying near the wages down south and I know for sure that in Kentucky (Toyota) it is a right to work state. I'm not trying to say you are overpaid but they definately aren't making your wages. It would be nice if another automaker looked at this facilty and saw something in it.

stripes1: I'm not sure where futureteachers reamarks are posted as I don't see them here, but you are right. I am one to defend teachers and usually agreed with her but she is out of line on that one. It takes more than white collar workers to get things done. The blue and white collar workers were nothing more than a team of workers. Why do we have to label people anyway? This is a very sad day for our community and state. This will be a huge blow to the local economy. Good luck to all that have been impacted by this.

Will it ever end? How stupid are these people?
Wait....how incensensitive of me. I'm sure he was just a great kid that only made 1 bad choice right????
What a load of crap. It seems about every other day this is happening around here. Why is it so difficult to learn that drinking and driving don't mix. I know, people here are going to tell me that it is an addiction and they need help and I understand that. What is not an addiction is getting into the car that innevitably becomes a murder weapon. Everyone knows that drinking and driving don't mix but we read about this crap all the time. This topic has been drilled into our heads since were children. No matter how drunk you are, you should know better. He deserves all the time he will get for this, and I hope it is not a slap on the hand!

ms_sassy_wi: WHAT? ms_sassy said "To be fair, nearly anyone could have had one dui. Knock on wood, I never have..."
By that statement you must think it is OK to drive drunk once in awhile (as you apparently have and will continue to do so) but not all the time. It is ok to get caught once but not twice! What the heck kind of logic is this???? Are you sane? It only takes one time to kill someone. I would agree, statistically speaking, that the repeat offenders have a greater chance of injuring or killing someone but it could very well happen the first time someone does it. I wish we knew who you are since apprarently you think it is OK to do occasionally.
I definatly think we should put a mark on the vehicle of anyone who has ever offended!
I hope ms_sassy "knock on wood" that when you get stupid you don't kill anyone!

Build bigger jails and lock him up before he kills someone! He has no purpose being in society like this! Isn't there a country out there that shoots you on the spot for drunk driving???? I bet that would curb the issue here!

When will these idiots that destroy innocent peoples lives be stopped? I also signed the petition. You people who do this even 1 time deserve the max! The victim dies and the offendor does 5 years, sounds fair to me. What a load of crap. And before all of you out there jump on and say everyone does it, YOU ARE WRONG. As far as I'm concerned the poeple who do decide to drink and drive and end up killing themselves, GOOD JOB! You just potentially saved innocent people the next time you would have decided to get behind the wheel after drinking. This is just nonsense, when will the lawmakers listen to us? If the jails/prisons are too full for these people then lets build them bigger! I'll gladly pay for more safety on our roads!

cjsmom: The facts are not out there for you to assume this. She also does not need to hear it from anyone else on these blogs. I'm sure there is more guilt than you could ever imagine. Your comment was not justified and should be removed. There is a time and place to teach people about these things and this is not either the time or the place.
If you are a mother as your login implies you should remember the sleepless nights. All of those nights can take a toll on a mother and accidents do happen!

optimism: The odd's of any plane falling on your home, let along a "amateur" built plane are astronomical. I hope you don't live life in a huge panic about what may happen at any given point in time. Maybe the word "ameteur" should be taken out at most of these people who build them know what they are doing.

optimism: You are right all of these people do pay taxes, eat, and buy things here. It will be a lot of dollars out of the local economy but I doubt it will have the impact all the pessimists of the world believe it will. Janesville is a prime location for people who travel to outlying cities for employement. It is not far from Madison, Rockford,Milwaukee or Beloit which offer quite a few job opportunities. Yes all of this will have an impact on the city but saying it is the end might be a bit premature.
