On Milton school staff morale at ‘all-time low’ over plan, teachers say

Posted on May 18 at 9:16 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

Well hopefully once more of the ObamaCare measures are in place in 2014, we will begin to see health insurance costs plummet. The major problem as I see it is that insurance companies, not unions, are holding communities hostage. How can we claim that we are FREE when the medical industry has us over a barrel price gauging the populace at every turn in exchange for health care? People don't have any alternative except to work in increasingly crappy jobs for increasingly crappy care.

On Venezuela's Hugo Chavez dies at 58

He was a U.S. foil and an international maverick and he will be missed: "In Venenzuela more than 2 million children could not go to school because they had no documents. Then came a government, that diabolical and demonic government, doing basic things, like saying "Children should be allowed in schools with or without documents." And the world fell: that is proof that Chavez is the epitomy of evil.” -Eduardo Galeano

On Longtime teachers await Janesville School Board benefits decision

New teachers considering coming in and replacing retiring teachers should note how their own life energy and commitment to students will be "valued" by the JSD. After 30 years in you will get a swift kick out the door and this tone: “If they want to leave, let them leave. There are opportunities for other people to come in and do great things in our school district,” DiStefano said. Nice.

On Do you support state income tax cut?

I am against income tax altogether. As free citizens, we should not pay the state to work as if we were paying some type of debt bondage. Eliminate income tax altogether and double or triple the sales tax. That way, the more you consume the more you are taxed.

On Are you an emergency away from financial ruin?

I agree with MHammer that medical costs are way out of control. Most people are one illness away from losing everything. I resent the idea of having to work for years just to pay off some ridiculously priced medical treatment. It reminds me of the sad cases of people that have been forced to dig their own graves just before being executed.

On Wisconsin health officials warn of rabies threat

Instead of shooing a bat out, always catch it if you find one in your home otherwise you'll never know for sure if it had rabies. It's hard to be 100% sure that kids or pets have not had contact with a bat. You can always get the after exposure shots to be on the safe side, but those cost about 7000 per person and are often not covered by health insurance. I speak from experience.

On What would you ask Paul Ryan?

@ Nicksmom Calling it entitlements vs welfare? That seems like a very petty thing to be outraged about. Also, you're wrong that people just sit on their laurels and feel entitled to something. Everyone is a taxpayer. Even if there are some that do not pay income tax they pay sales tax. Why should people pay into the government and NOT expect a commitment from the government to the small time taxpayers? What SHOULD our tax money go to? War? Big business? Bailouts? Interest on debt? Why not small time families? I would say if anything is "entitled" it is the taxpaying people.

On Retire now, teachers union advises

The rhetoric of "Teacher's aren't there for the kids" whenever the discussion comes to compensation is old. "Good" teachers, just like doctors, interpreters and anyone working in "helping" professions are in it because they want to get PAID to help people. Stop trying to sell your lack of commitment to students and the educators that dedicate their lives to kids in this community as some kind of moral standard. Volunteering for the district or to help kids in this community (at any schools, house of mercy or YWCA) is not only something we should expect teachers to do. Are you "there for the kids?"
