On Downtown snow removal scheduled for tonight

Posted on March 6 at 3:03 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Our office leases several spots in the downtown area and I live in Janesville. I think they do a fabulous job moving the snow out of the downtown area in a timely fashion. They have a huge job and it probably takes them all night to do it. I can't imagine getting around downtown if they did not remove the snow. It would be almost impossible. As far as the residential streets I think they have done a fine job getting things cleared. I live on a street that is not heavily traveled and since I live in WI I have come to expect driving carefully on snow packed roads. I, and many others, understand that the city needs to focus on arterial streets and not my little out of the way street. It is not as important.

On Tech vs. UW pay scale is eye-opener

I have a PhD and went to a division 1 research university in a top tier graduate department. I have friends that decided to become academics while I chose to enter the private sector. Some of my friends are the most talented researchers in our field in the world. I was lucky to be surrounded by such an outstanding group. But when they went to apply in academic positions they were surprised to find out that the average pay was approximately $45K with benefits. If you do a national search of available tenure track positions this would be what you are finding. Look at professors who have been around awhile, not many are making $86K. My old advisor from UW-Whitewater is the most talented teacher I have ever known and she is making less than $86K by far. She's been at UWW since 1992. Not to add fuel to the fire but I assure you the difference in pay is more stark than people know.

Not to add to the water meter argument here but I have two meters on my house. One measures water used in the house that goes into sewer and one measures water that is used outside and does not go into sewer. I am not charged sewer rates for water sprinkled on my grass outside because it does not go into the sewer. I was told some houses have this setup but most do not.

On UW Health requires employees to get flu shots

A little investigative reporting would have revealed that medicare is behind all of this. They are offering incentives to hospitals and health systems in the form of increased reimbursements for following specific initiatives such as this.

On UW Health requires employees to get flu shots

I am a contracted provider for several HMO's and insurance companies. I for the first time this year was forced to either get the flu shot or be removed from the provider panel. I can attest to the fact that this is a growing trend and UW Health is not the only large organization doing this.

Thanks for the review Steve! Many "gas stations" try to compete with the Kwik Trips of the world and we (well my brother and family) really try to emphasize vehicle, lawn mower, and power equipment service. Our mechanic has even been known to repair a wheelchair from time to time! Anyhow folks are always welcome to stop in and share their wisdom while they wait. They are always welcome.

I've worked with a lot of domestic abuse situations and I have to give a shout out to the YWCA here in Janesville. I have referred people there and they do a fabulous job helping victims of domestic violence and intimidation. Below is a link to the brochure they hand out. They are a great resource.
