I think for people to get public assistance they need initial drug tests, then random ones & pay a fee ($10-20) toward it - hopefully this amount is considered reasonable. If they can't pass the test, then no assistance. This would eliminate some abuse of the system and the unhealthy/unsafe environments people cause themselves. It should also eliminate some drug dealers because they would lose their markets.
Our country has the ability to produce plenty of crops and meat. No child or adult should be left hungry even with the economic position our city, state and country is in presently.
On More Janesville pools would need fences under ordinance proposal

I rent and there's no way my landlord will put up a taller fence, they don't even know who owns the existing fences! Taller fences will not prevent accidental drowings, if a kid wants in a pool bad enough, they'll find a way to get in. And trying to implement putting a rail around the top of a pool is not going to work either when many people own pools with the inflatable ring on the top.
I think requiring 4 foot fenced yard is enough, most fenced yards meet that requirement already.
If the city wants taller fences, then those voting for it can pay for it out of their personal incomes, not tax payer dollars!! And if they want certain type of pool, they can pay for those pools too! Stop the attempts at dictatorship.

If you want to be taken seriously & get a job in today's market, then dress to impress no matter what the position is for. Even for t-shirt/jeans jobs, employers want to know you take care of yourself, are confident and have respect for yourself. Dressing well shows them that.

On Janesville GM assembly plant to remain on standby
Posted on September 19 at 9:25 a.m. ( Suggest removal )
Like many, my siblings and I have had to have many more skills/education in order to make the same money that many GM 'general laborers' made. Many guys walked into GM in the late 60's & 70's and were put to work irregardless of their education/skills. Shoot some of them probably couldn't fill out a job application then let alone now. Its always a bone of contention to hear some retirees talk about certain issues, they didn't have to know half of what is needed to make it today's employement environment irregardless of the plant closure. I do hope the plant opens again in the future.
On Teachers reject Janesville School Board's offer

The teachers union needs to take more cuts across the board so some laid off teachers can be brought back while making an overall reduction. The quality of education is already taking a hit with larger class sizes & the chain reaction has only begun of how that will impact our city long term.

On Janesville roundabout plan detoured
Posted on November 16 at 10:41 a.m. ( Suggest removal )
When I lived in a different city, there were several roundabouts in one area of the city and they were constant frustration. When I'd get a call at work from a driver about one of our work trucks supposedly cutting off a driver, it was ALWAYS on a roundabout. Forget the roundabouts Janesville! I don't know anyone who thinks the ones in Milton were a good idea either.
$50 says that as the area around Menards develops further and gets busier, there will plenty of road rage because of the roundabout.
