janesvillean: Thanks for the post, but according to our story Wednesday, http://gazettextra.com/news/2013/may/15/... River Street is being rebuilt this year but the rain garden won't be installed until next spring.

On When pollen poses problems

Wow, JoyM, sorry to hear your allergies sound so much more severe than mine. I learned as a kid not to rub my eyes when they really itch or it just makes the problem worse. Closing them for a spell seems to relieve the problem a bit(but doesn't help produce pages!).

On Tensions between bicyclists, drivers

Posted on May 3 at 12:22 p.m. ( Suggest removal )

Those who think I'm wearing headphones or not paying attention don't know me (see initial explanation of riding "carefully").

jcommon: I pay plenty of gas taxes and license fees. Bicycles don't beat up the roads like cars/trucks do. If someone is too poor to use anything but a bike for transportation, that person can ride on roads without paying toward their upkeep--other than income or property taxes--with no bitterness from me.

Re. your No. 3, people living in Janesville pay taxes for lots of recreational amenities the majority doesn't use--for example, Rockport Pool, toward every park, the ice arena, Dawson Ball Fields, etc.

Re. point No. 4, I think state law REQUIRES motorists to "share" the road with bicyclists. I have no problem sharing city trails with hikers, and the same would go with dogs if the dogs are under control as I pass.

On I’m declaring moratorium on winter wear

I will, EMMO46. Get this: Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for northwest Wisconsin as a rare May snowstorm will hit tonight and Thursday. (And I was hoping to visit my parents in Minocqua within the next few days. Might have to delay those plans).

deltasaw: Let me quote directly from a portion of today's editorial: "Though critics mislabel these 'Obama phones,' Cullen points out that the program began in 1985 under President Ronald Reagan and expanded to cellphones under President George W. Bush."

On Wrestling those big blue trash bins

Posted on April 24 at 6:52 a.m. ( Suggest removal )

During my walk this morning, it was easy to see which residents in my neighborhood read The Gazette and which don't. Some new "Big Blues" still sitting curbside after they were dropped off, while others already in use, a week early, for trash pickup today--one so full the lid wouldn't shut. News they could use (a recap of new trash hauling procedures is on 1A again today).

Thanks, woody. That link he put in takes you to an online version of the same brochure they were handing out Saturday at K&W. Interesting reading.

baegucb: Don't try the little drive off Pontiac Drive behind the credit union and hardware store to get to Sentry on the east side. Yikes!

On Building a summery “bucket list”

packattack: Probably a dozen years ago, my wife and I biked the entire length of the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail in one day. We had planned to do it in two legs over a two-day weekend, but the weather wasn't promising. It wasn't raining, so we did the whole thing on Saturday with a visitors-center driver leaving our car at the opposite end. We loaded up the bikes and had just entered Wildcat Mountain State Park when it started pouring--and it kept pouring all the rest of the weekend. So I think I understand the attraction and would like to see it under sunny skies. But thanks for the reminder.
