I love it when our elected representitives know nothing of the founding of our country.
STATE REP's QUOTE BELOW:
“Our Founding Fathers had one thing in mind when they founded this country,” proclaimed state Rep. Jay Neal, “and it was a Christian nation built upon the principles of Jesus Christ.”

Jay Neal is 100% wrong!!!! For one thing, one of the main reasons the colonists came came here in the first place was to escape religious persecution. Furthermore, the founding fathers went out of their way to keep religion out of the process. The First Amendment begins with "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion". Thomas Jefferson, who is a founding father famously wrote :
***"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."***

Also, I'd like to point out that if this article was about Cheerleading for Islam...you would all be freaking out. But wait, you all believe in love thy neighbor right? As long as your neighbor believes what you believe I suppose.

lovemycountry: Although I do not agree with you regarding what got us into the current financial mess...I do applaud your apparent desire to care for the homeless, and the hungry. On that we are in agreement. Many thanks.

So if the city manager had known the CEO of General Motors...you wouldn't have wanted Eric to help get GM to stay in town? C'mon ShotgunWillie...regardless of his supposed relationships with whomever...this new facility will bring in jobs, and a steady stream of revenue to this city. That's a plus in my book.

Sannio: At first glance it seems backwards to spend money when no one seems to have any, but it's the right thing to do. Consider the alternative example: The economy starts to go south, so every business, local government, and family slows or stops spending. This would result in disaster. Families stop spending, so they are no longer purchasing goods and services...at least at the rate they were previously. This causes local businesses to start laying off workers to maintain their bottom line...if nobody is buying their products, they can't afford to pay people to work for them. If everyone simply stops spending then how does the economy ever recover? The answer is that it won't.

cardtrader: Seven sixteenths of one inch... That's the distance you'd have to move your pinky in order to not sound like an idiot. I know the burden of pressing shift to capitalize is a great one, but c'mon cardtrader, you can do better than that. I used to type emails in caps like yours, but then I decided that I didn't want a job mixing concrete.

On City Council votes to allow alcohol sales at ice arena

People...they sell beer & wine at Chuck E. Cheese for goodness sake. That's all day every day! If they can make it work at a place where the slogan is "Where a kid can be a kid" I think we can make it work for a few hours a week at the ice arena. Please stop with the hysterics.

On Council to decide on liquor sales

Rooster- I think you might be stupid? First of all, they are not youth hockey players..they are junior hockey players. There IS a difference. Secondly, they sell beer at Chuck E. Cheese for goodness sake. Let's not make a mountain out of a mole hill. If you don't like to drink, fine. Others do, and this is a decision best left to individual parents.
